Does anyone know where this photo would have been taken?

I know that I should know as i'm in the photo but I have no idea whatsoever.

I know its on a pier with a ski-lift running on it but any more is a total blank.

I know i've probably posted this in the wrong place but I dont know where else to put it.Me & Mum.jpg

Is this in Britain? There are/were more piers than you can shake a stick at! :D

One website that looks particularly useful if no-one recognises the place is the National Pier Society - piers.org.uk/. There are pictures of piers both still existing and no longer with us to browse through. :)

Take a look at piers.org.uk/ (www in front) - might be worth sending them a copy of the picture and asking the question?

Ooops beaten to it by Jan :)

As always you guys are great. Thanks for the tip - have sent a copy of the picture and have received a reply that it has been forwarded to their archivist for his thoughts.

By the way - definate UK it was probably one of many daytrips that we went on back in the 60s.

It suggests to me that it would be next to a hill, then. Great Orme, Llandudno? :shrugs:

I know they used to have a ski slope on the Orme, but I don't ever recall seeing the lift on the pier.

I have found an old entry (21st September 2008) on a forum (joylandbooks.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=216) where the poster refers to Clacton Pier:
"Back on the pier I also enjoyed the chair lift that started near the former big wheel site and continued to the Jolly Roger and then returned."

A possibility?

Well, I would never have said it was Clacton
When I was a child, we used to go to Walton on the Naze for our holidays and ventured into Clacton quite frequently. I really don't remember the Skyliner - only the roller-coaster ((didn't know that was called the Steel Stella) which frightened the life out of me......

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Had it confirmed by National Pier Society that it is Clacton pier. Still don't remember the trip but I do remember a holiday at Butlins Clacton when I was about 5 or 6 perhaps we went back to see how it had changed but at least query solved.

Ooh next time I head that way (not many miles from where I live) I will have to take an up to date photo to compare (if the tiny brain cells remember:D)

when I looked at the 'Clacton dolphins' website the photo on there seems to have been taken from the opposite side of the pier but from roughly the same place.

I would have said Clacton pier but the Skyliner confused me, it wasn't there when I knew Clacton.
