A little tip I have picked up in my foray into BMD's on this site.

If you do a search on say a marriage. You find the one you are after. To the right is a code for ordering the certificate. Clicking this will bring up an order requisition form. If you look at the "Year of Marriage" it will give you the date of the event.
eg.

Here is the actual date of the marriage I was looking for.

I know one says 5th September 1876 and the other 18760905 but if you split this date up you will see it is 1876-09-05 in other words 1876 September 5th. So from this you have Groom full name, Bride full name, place ceremony was held and the date. If you are only chasing twigs this works out fine.
