Where is Parkhurst?

My 2nd great grandmother's place of birth on all census is listed as Manchester (and also her brother) but I've been unable to find a birth for either of them between the years 1856 - 1859.

Their father was in the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Cheshire Regiment and by trying to see where they were stationed may give a clue to finding their births. I have found an article which states that the 2nd Batt, was 'at depot Parkhurst prior to going to Malta in 1859'.

Where was the depot Parkhurst?

Well, that certainly changes where they could have been born!! Thank you.

Just checked the IoW Births between 1855 - 1860 and there is only one 'Burke' forename George William so, don't think he is mine...

Would all of the 2nd Battalion be at Parkhurst? Wonder if they went there just prior to going to Malta? Are there records relating to Parkhurst?

Have found some postings of the 2nd Battalion,The Cheshire Regiment.They were at this time called the 22 Regiment of Foot.

If these two are with grandparents in 1861 ref RG 9 ; Piece: 2944; Folio: 40; Page: 31 then William is shown as age 6 so what about this birth

Their father was in the Army and they were all in Malta by 1861.

I am fairly sure that they went with them. Annie (b. 1821) the grandmother in the 1861 census is to young to be the mother of Bridget, as Bridget was born abt 1828.
