Hi there all... I normally avoid any sort of forum like they are the contagions of destruction to all reason, but I've had a look through a fair few threads on here and it looks like nearly everyone is actually humans with brains and communication skills...
Since the late 70's people have been looking into our family history, but there are HUGE gaps, and a serious deficit in records for our family. Part of this is due to fires destroying many of the parish records for the early 1800's in Donacavey, Co-Tyrone Ireland, but this has also left us with an uncertainty as to what our families actual name was before boarding the ship to Australia in December of 1840.
So we have a lot of names, a few stories, and quite a few headstones, but many of the names are slightly wrong (in the early to mid 1900's) and there are many gaps.
Once in Australia the Collins married and spread along the South Coast of NSW, with the largest concentration of farm land owned by them being in the Bega Valley.
So I'm chasing all sorts of stuff here in Australia, but would really like to find help in private records in Co-Tyrone of possible relatives.
The name my migrating ancestors used for their trip to Australia was MacCallion, Patrick and Rachael, but this too may actually be an alternative to -
MacCailin, MacCallan, MacCathmhaoil (Campbell) (MacAilin).
