Hi everyone,

My name's Carole and I found out about this Forum earlier today from Daft Bat and Chimp at the BAFHS exhibition today. Lovely people!

I'm a retired History teacher, but only recently into Family History and already addicted. I live not far from Bath, but all my family were from Birmingham and in the main 'pulled in' there from the surrounding rural areas in the C19th. Classic stuff.

Welcome Carole C|:-), glad you have joined us. We are are friendly bunch who love to help other like minded souls in their quest for their 'lost' ancestors.

Welcome aboard the good ship "Top Dog". As you probably gathered at the ex. we are not only dedicated to finding solutions to F.H. problems, we also have fun and a 'chin-wag' along the way.

Do stick around, post your F.H. problems and join in to the fun side of our forum.

Hiya Carole and welcome to Top Dog. Glad Daft Bat and Chimp have another recruitee (you survived the Bats talking:D), we all enjoy a good chinwag, a good laugh and somewhere in between we do some family history so sit back, have a good nose around the forum and enjoy the rideC|:-)

Mmmmmm .... knew it might be dangerous to reveal that! Always happy to help, if I can, but may well use the standard historian's let-out at times ....."Not my period."
We cover a lot of ground here Carole ;)

Many thanks for the welcome .... I've been having a look round this evening and you clearly are a lovely (if daft!) bunch of people. ;)
;)

and quite Batty with it some of us. :D

Welcome Carole, so happy that you have decided to join in with this whacky group but I'm a little bit jealous that you have met Jan and Chimp. :)
We do yak a lot, but get some things accomplished quite well in between other topics of major interest. ;)

Yes Carole, I agree with Archie's Mum.......I too am jealous that you have only just joined but have already met our 'Daft Bat' Jan and the infamous 'Chimp'! One of the huge disadvantages of living 'down under' is that it makes it impossible to ever attend any of the wonderful family history events that seem to happen so frequently over there in the UK! However, this forum is so friendly, and so chatty, we feel that we are all part of one big family, and we welcome you into it with open arms.

My favourite subject at school was always History, which I think is where my love of family history arose from (I was educated in England, so it was English History), and I find that both blend together like strawberries and cream. I love to research the times when I have found a new relation, and the areas where they lived too. It all helps put flesh on the bones, as they say. Hope you enjoy your stay with us, and that you will find it productive, as there are some super clever researchers in our 'family', who have helped many of us break down long standing brick walls, or at the very least, given us new leads to chase after them ourselves. Cheers Diana

Welcome from me too CaroleF, glad to see you have a good sense of humour, it will stand you in good stead. :)

Like Diana my favourite subject at school was history, my most hated subject music, it was Nymphs and Shepherds which turned me off as a subject but fortunately it didn't destroy my love of music.

Well at least he's brought it on himself this time, Findem. Last time the machine from satan was resurrected it was by yours truly and some less than appreciative words were tossed in my direction!!!! :p

A big welcome to you Carole. Unlike Tony, I don't have a vacuum cleaner, Satanic or Saintly. Thanks to my granddaughter's obsession with the TellyTubbies as a toddler I use a Noo Noo.:D Oh, and a Grass Noo Noo for the lawn.

David
