Something odd is going on here. As soon as I posted this reply I realised I should really be welcoming Carole - and so I did, in a new post - but it disappeared into the ether.

I don't know if I imagined things because of the return of the flu or if I've finally turned the corner and really gone whacko, but either way it seems I should have stayed in bed!!

OR - maybe it's just a conspiracy and my paranoia has finally been justified!!!

Yup, it hit last night with sore throat and very woolly head and generally a feeling of "yuk". After 4 weeks of the last lot to say I'm unimpressed would be the understatement of the year. Got up a little while ago to get a cold drink, then spent time here re-posting the missing gems ( :rolleyes: ) and now I'm back to the cot. At least tomorrow is a holiday here so son-in-law and daughter will be around to do things if necessary, then on Tuesday I WILL BE OK AGAIN!! Ah has spoken!!! :D
 
My cot is very likeable, Wendy - and just as well, but I'm getting a little tired of it after all this time. I must admit I'm more than happy to stand back from the limelight and let Bill reclaim his place under the spotlight. It's just no fun at all!!

Might have to whip over to Dogpatch and get me some of Mammy Yokum's magic potion!!!!
 
You might also be able to teach "Focus on Topic 101", Carole. Just as a "diversion" from history, not wanting to drive you away or anything!!

After this little introduction to TD, how do you think you'd go? I think there might be a pass rate of well under 50% though, so hope you aren't easily discouraged!!!

Thank you all so much for the lovely warm welcome I've received here. Thought I'd post a general "thank you" rather than cluttering things up with lots of messages - but I am happy to confirm that Daft Bat and Chimp are indeed the wonderful people they say they are. What they are not telling you is that they are both stunningly good-looking as well!;)

As for 'focusing on the topic' - think I'll pass on that one. Let's just say that with my 'teacher hat' on I might not be too complimentary, but hey I'm not wearing that and I appreciate the off-topic banter.

I don't have any burning questions right now, but this is clearly the place to find the answers when next I hit a brick wall.

Carole. You mentioned Birmingham. Well, I was born and 'dragged up' there so we may have research subjects in common.

Regarding your interest in History, if you have not yet found it, there is a Birmingham History forum. It tends to feature mainly modern history. The memories of the contributors, but can be valuable for getting a 'feel' of where people lived.

Oh poor Philippa....what a rotten run you are having at the moment. Rest up, keep warm and get lots of fluids into you! Thankfully your weather is gradually improving at last although you are still getting some cold nights I see! I remember that we used to look forward to the October Long Weekend for the weather to really improve, so things should get better very soon! Thinking of you and sending my very best wishes for a super speedy recovery. Diana
