very old photo - please help date it.

I think this photo is a daguerreotype as it is on glass and some has come off over the years - her poor nose! But could someone help date it, please?

It came from my Dorset grandmother's set of photos. She was a Bartlett but her mother Amelia Fry died when my Grandmother was three (1896). Later Granny wrote to her aunts asking for family photos so this could be her Gran?

Thanks for any help.

The jewelry appears to have been "touched up." Have you been able to take it out of the frame without doing further damage to the photo?

It is not possible to take anything out. The photo is part of the glass as if it is printed straight onto the glass but some has scraped off as the back of the photo is lost. I think it might be an Ambrotype photo circa 1860 but would like some expertise on that.

For what it's worth, I think she's quite young. It's a guess in the dark but she may be around 20/21 - not much older I would have thought.

Yes I would say early part of the 1860's I think she may be a little older - say thirty. - Not 100% sure but can I see some sort of ring on her left hand? She looks like she may be spanish or of spanish origin - but it is difficult to really see her. Poor lady whoever she is she hasn't worn too well.

Not too sure of her age, possible 25-30 but she is of a very dark complexion. Is it possible there may be a sub-continent connection, say India.
As gillyflower suggests possibly Spain too.
Definitely not Scandinavian!

Am by no means an expert when guessing ages but I go along with gillyflower. The possibility of Iberian blood also came to mind.
