My grand uncle and his wife in a photo

I have a photograph of my grand-uncle and his wife, taken at the entrance of a shop - possibly in Easington, Durham. The name of the shop was W.H. Halstead and it is on a corner of a a street or alleyway.

There are no street name indications and I can't upload a copy of this photo. What I would like to do is find out a bit more about the business. The W.H. stands for William Henry and he is the brother of my grand-uncle's wife. William Henry married in 1926 in Easington.

I am not having much success with business directories, phone books or electoral rolls.

This website - People Past and Present Archive - Easington Village has many photos of Easington. No sign of Halstead's that I can see, but it may help you decide if the shop is likely to be in Easington.

Alternatively - have you tried wandering around on Google streetview?
 
When you say Easington do you mean somewhere in the Easington registration district, or Easington itself? What does the marriage certificate say about William's abode and job?

Did he stay in that area after he married or might he have gone somewhere else?

What sort of shop is it? Can you guess the date?

It is possible, but I don't believe so. William Henry died Oct-Dec 1969 vol. 1a page 995 - Durham Eastern Reg. Dist.

As I don't have the marriage certificate, I cannot determine the age that his wife Annie was nor what her condition was prior to marriage.

Although I am pretty useless at aging photographs it is now on my public tree on Ancestry. The proprietor of the shop is William Henry Halstead. The couple in the doorway are Frederick Charles and Elizabeth Mary Golley who were married in Redruth 4 April 1928. William Henry and Elizabeth Mary were brother and sister.

Looking at some of the businesses and residences on the website mentioned above, I feel that that it could be late 20's early 30's - certainly most likely prior to the 2nd World War.
 
Have looked at the photo and enlarged it. On the left hand window it says General Dealer. To the left of the name W. H. Halstead, it says Fruiterer and to the right it says Confectioner. Don't know if that helps at all?

In some ways it does and I'm grateful. There is a doorway which would appear to lead to living quarters and may be indicative of where they were residing when running the shop.

Be nice if we could find an address or an Electoral Roll with their name on it.
