Help needed reading census entry

This is an entry from the 1841 census: HO107, Piece 1097. Book 1, Folio 57, page 31:



I would like to know what the occupation is for John Clarke, please. The address is Market Square, Horsham, Sussex.

I have an idea, but would welcome other views.

I would have gone with Printer but I have no idea what the squiggly bit is ...

I agree with muggy that John is a Printer. The bit afterwards is probably meant to be '&c'.

John Clarke, Market Square, is listed under the heading 'Booksellers & Stationers' in the 1840 Pigot's directory listing for Horsham. After his name it says '(and binder & printer)'.

No, I don't think so, Libby, as the entry immediately above is empty for occupation and the one above that is for a Joinery Carpenter.
