My paternal grandfather GEORGE WILLIAM PEARCE is a mystery. I found him in 2 records.
first in 1912 when he and "wife" Edith left England for Canada. |(marriage record not found.
second on my fathers birth certificate 1913 Winnipeg Manitoba Canada
after that nothing, no death, no census, no divorce.
Edith married again, using her maiden name of HASSALL.

There is a G.W. Pearce on a passenger list of men going back to England to work as munition workers in WW1 but I have not been able to access the records of the War recods office as to what became of them, or if this is my George.

Very frustrating, hope that someone can help

thank you all

There's a tree on Ancestry with a William George Pearce living in Winnipeg. He would be too young to be your grandfather, but he could be the one going to England as this is his 196 address.... 181, Batt, Rifles, Camp Hughes, Canada. This fellow is married in the 1921 census with a wife Edith. You don't say where you live now..which province.. so we can't tell you what records offices may be able to help....some provinces have better records than others. Some are really stingy with letting the public view anything.
Unfortunately there are several George William Pearce in the war deaths but the ones I saw all had British addresses for their home address.
When and where did Edith marry again? Do you have a copy of that marriage cert.?

I will look some more for you later.. bedtime now!

Sorry for the delay in my reply, away for March break and your message was lost in my mail box.

My father was born in Winnipeg, 18 Jan. 1913 to Edith May Hassall born Limebridge (in Shropshire|) England and George William Pearce born Oxford England. This is the only hint I have as to George's birthplace.

They arrived in Canada on the Royal Edward in 1912 giving their ages as George aged 38 and Edith 28.

And that is it for George, he never appears again...I could not find a birth, marriage, divorce or death for him. I am grasping for straws with the munition workers.

I live in hope

thank you for taking the effort to reply, it is much appreciated.
Pat

Find a Grave has
Bombardier George Pearce d. 1917 and 561 other George Pearce's . You may want to check it out a bit more.
There are also some on the CWGC site which crashed as I was using it tonight. :(
The 1921 census has Edith and William G Pearce in Winnipeg. Says he was born in England, but she was born in Manitoba, but her parents were born in England. No sign of your father with them if this is your couple. Says he works at the post office.
All places to look :)
There is an Edith May Pearce buried in Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg.
date of death 9/24/1952. you may have this, I don't know. Maybe this isn't her if your Edith married again..missed that first time around
Since you still haven't given us a closer place of residence now I don't know if it is possible for you to go to a library to look up the obits in a Winnipeg paper and it may answer your questions. Some libraries will even get the micro fische in for you.
Where was Edith living when she remarried?

Its a thought maybe George and Edith weren't married at all, just said they where, perhaps they ran away together to Canada who's to know in a new country. Did you have to show your marriage certificate when you arrive in a new country in 1912 ??

maybe George and Edith weren't married at all
I must admit that thought had also entered my mind and would explain why...
Edith married again, using her maiden name of HASSALL
Usually when people remarry, they marry again using their previous marriage name - if you see what I mean. My Gran married twice and her second marriage certificate has her name listed as Louisa Maud OTTLEY formerly GOLDSMITH. GOLDSMITH was her maiden name, OTTLEY the name of her first husband.

That's what I was thinking got to use your married name for a second marriage and also your status ie. widow, single.
