Looks to me like it sounded like Preston Chimp but on F S I found this. Annie Yapp Daughter England and Wales Census, 1901 birth:1895 ..[b. 24 Oct. 1895 Bapt. 1st .Nov. 1895] via Baptism image Bishops Castle, Salop residence: 31 March 1901, Bishops Castle Urban, Shropshire, England father:Alfred Pressdee mother:Margaret Pressdee other:Mary Yapp, Alfred Willam Yapp, Albert George Pressdee any use? Looking at Baptism via FMP it could well be whatever you wish, a definite 'poor' attempt at a 't' but the 'o' is not as clear as it should be & the end letter has too much curlicue for his usual 'n'. Mayhap it was the end of the day & the baptsismal wine?
So who put Annie in the institution & was probably responsible for giving here date of birth?? 26th Oct, easily confused for 25th.
According to FMP this morning- Annie doesn't exist anyway so problem solvered. [painted over] Oh yes-sorry there she is : ''Annie Preesdie" so much for name variations!
Ah yes the 1901 census. I didn't bother searching any further for her at the time. It was pre 1911 census.
Strange that she isn't shown as an Lunatic on the 1911 census. Makes me wonder if the story is true, that they put her in the institution because she was pregnant. But why !!!, her mother did it 3 times prior to her marriage. Anne/Annie was baptised in the Bishop's Castle & Clun Methodist Circuit. I wonder if they placed her in the institution to save face within the congregation. If the Birth cert of Frances L Pressdee I sent for turns out to be her daughter (she being born 1916) then Annie would have been sent away prior to her birth. Which would mean that it will have been 100 years, therefore the closure rule would be passed and I could gain access to Annie's admittance record. I will have to wait for the certs to arrive
Oh piggin heck. I've just found her brothers service record. He was killed in WW1 on 21st April 1918. The war office at Shrewsbury wrote to his father asking for names of relatives so that they could send the plaque and scroll. His father wrote back on 24th December 1919 giving details of family members, one of whom was Annie aged 23 living at home. Can you divorce your family
Just to throw yet another spanner at you, Yapp is a rather common name in Jamaica. Some white, some black. I have some in the family via marriage and also worked with one up here. Now you will have to find a picture.
Well, if they lived in Jamaica before 1880, their colour was noted in a column. Not just colour, but whether they were born there or from Africa. Just throwing odd tidbits out here. "Creole" means born on the Island. I should throw some of these tidbits on that Forum. Have a few Slave Returns on here. (kinda like doing your income tax.....they got sent back to England).
