A Mystery

This plaque was found recently and needs to find a home. It was found in an Epsom Hospital that was founded in the 1930s. Can't see any connection with there or that area.

Has anyone any suggestions?
Thank you

A fuller story can be seen here, with a sketch of the hospital.

OK, Epsom isn't far from Banstead (just under 4 miles) Read the following and you should get the drift of what I'm on about.

It all has to do with amalgamations of hospitals. I think because The east London Children's Hospital (later renamed Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children) was amalgamated with the Banstead Wood Country Hospital, when the former hospital closed the plaque had to go somewhere, so was maybe sent to Barnstead Hospital. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Group was dissolved in 1975, and Banstead Wood closed in 1998 the plaque would become homeless again. Probably why it ended up in Epsom.

It details the connection between Nathaniel Heckford and Charles Dickens and states that the tablet was placed in the hall of the new hospital when it opened in 1876.

Chimp Thank you I read through the hyperlinks you suggested and it does say that a foundation stone was laid the year The East London Children's Hospital was built, then a year later a tablet was placed in the hall, it gives the wording, which is the same, so I think this is the tablet. I wonder if it is the sort of thing the archives would like.
