A Pommie in the Tropics!

I took to Greek tapes from the local Library when son was learning it at school, then chatted a little with chap at work & local vegie shop people
for the pleasure of it. Did same with various other languages, to not much avail without company to chat in said language.

No not at all. I just hope you didn't think I was being nosey.....cause I was
I still can't get the tongue around it though. I'll keep trying.
I'm just plain old 'Sue'.
I have a feeling that you have lived a most interesting life.
Yes Sue, I really have had an interesting life and can honestly say I don't regret any of it. During the years I lived in Tonga I lived on an outer island where I built a small home right on the beach and some Tongan fales ( woven coconut palm shelters) where I ran a beachfront restaurant and bar catering to yachties who anchored just off the beach and came ashore by dingy. There were no roads, no electricity, no running water and I used to put on a Sunday buffet lunch for 60 people every Sunday (nothing else in town was allowed to open as it offended the Church goers, but I was sufficiently far enough away for them not to worry about me)! It was really back to basics but totally fascinating, and I met hundreds of people from all over the world.

My son was only 16 when we went there and rich American kids came off their fancy yachts and used to ask him what he did with his time living in such a place, but Steve always answered by saying that there were not enough hours in the day to do everything he wanted to do.

In months June to October we could sit on our front doorstep and watch humpback whales with their calves frolicking in the water only meters away.

Must shut up or I will go on for hours!
