Take a peek at the 1861 census: piece 615, folio 172, page 3

Anne and William are living in Duke Street, Littlehampton, Sussex - but what is their surname, please?

Thank you! :)

FMP have it as HURNDING - which looks pretty accurate to me.
Do you know Ann's maiden name? If so can you find their marriage? I cannot see any for a William Hurnding though :(

is this them in 1871 Brighton St Peter, ED10/10/131/ piece 1076 folio 108 page 20 as Harnden, this would match as William's occupation is boot and shoe maker

I have found an 1891 census RG12/805/86/32 (can't claim any credit Anc. gave me a hint to the adress for 1893 electoral reg, so I checked in 1891)
FMP have the surname as Nurden
William b1816 Chatham - shomaker
Ann b1831 ditto pob Chatham - nurse
Address 34 William Street, Brighton

I think it should be Hearndon/Hurndon, there seems to be several families from Kent with that surname, but I can’t find anyone with the name Hurnding.

Ann's surname was GODDEN. I am not sure if this is the right person, so was looking for a marriage to check, but there are rather a lot of Anne GODDEN marriages... :headbang:

It looks like William died in 1900 Dec qtr Brighton 2b 118 - William Hernden age 84 and Ann Hurnden in 1901 Mar qtr Brighton 2b142 age 71
I still cannot find a marriage though :headbang:
