Sue, I fear I'm confusing the issue concentrating on Wilhelmina/Williamina Ottoway. Is your husband's ancestor the W.R who married William Joseph Forrest?
Lizzie I went over all of my notes &then more censuses after seeing your post,...I think it possible that Williamina of Kent Broadstairs may have been switching jobs at the time of 1871 census or working two places. I do think it has to be the same person Wendy, but if so why is she Wilhelmina Rush and not Wilhelmina Ottaway!
Dunno Wendy, the 1871 census was 5yrs after the marriage and so far as I can tell she and Charles didn't have children until Charles William in Aug 1873........very odd!
Going to hit the pillow now Wendy. I hope thoughts of Wilhelmina's Williamina's don't keep me awake Good night, catch you tomorrow
Good heavens. The night shift have been at it again. . Yes the Wilhelmina Rush who belongs to us married William Forrest a policeman. That wedding witnessing is marvellous Wedny. Obviously the half sisters were close and 'family'. I don't know what to think about this Lizzie. I have mapped the Kings, Annie Spark King had lots of siblings including a Joseph James. He went off to Buckinghamshire and had a son called Joseph James. Haven't got time at the mo to see if it is the same one. If it is, what on earth does that mean? So far I have assumed that the two families of William Rush didn't know about each other. Wedny, Thomas King (Annie's Dad) married Charlotte Spark 23 JUne 1801 in Islington.
After much digging, I can report that the connection between King and Ottaway is co-incidental. Annie Spark had a nephew Joseph James King who was born Islington baptised 28.8.1829. He married Eliza Clayton at Bethnel Green on 22.10.1851 he was a Tinman not working in a supermarket. Haven't got him in 1861 but have got him in 1871 still in Bethnel Green. So back to my theory that neither family knew about the other. Possibly, maybe perhaps
In 1861 Phoebe Ann Rush was a Pupil teacher living with her 1/2 brother Alfred in Lambeth. On 16April 1864 she was buried at All Souls, Kensal Green aged 18 from the National School, Kensal Green. RIP Phoebe. But where and when did your father die? I am beginning to doubt it was in Kent as there is no likely death for him there.
I've just stumbled on this web site - http://www. oldshuck.webspace.virginmedia.com/ It contains transcriptions of the minutes of board meetings for the Board of Guardians of the Erpingham Poor Law Union http://www. oldshuck.webspace.virginmedia.com/pdf/Minutes_1849on.pdf If you do a search within the transcriptions, William's name crops up quite a lot - don't think it will help much but something might strike a chord...... Ann (OK Sue )
Oh my word. Wait till @Huncamunca sees this. Willy is starting to sound like a princess in this lot. Doesn't like his apartments, want whole candles and a week off. Coo also mentions permission to work at Spalding Union. Another place to look then. Thanks so much Ann.
Thank goodness for ctl. 'f' button eh? I'd been going to ask which hospitals would have taken chest patients in those years 1851+ but if William was working in workhouses wouldn't they have looked after him? was there a hospital closer to the sea?
Wedny He left the workhouse in Erpingham to return to Broadstairs in 1851 and I wondered whether it was because there was a big TB hospital in Margate about 3 miles away. But then we found wifey living in Broadstairs in the 1851 so I sort of dropped that. Also embarrassed to say I have forgotten why I thought he had TB . Here is something else to add to the mix. There are two directories on that website I posted elsewhere which tell us that the Schoolmistress of the Victoria National School Broadstairs was Emma Rush. Aaagh.
I am beginning to wonder if his leaving due to ill health wasn't a touch of going before he was pushed..... Apart from behaving like a princess, our Will was told off for not having a clean schoolroom, and he was downright rude about the Guardians calling them "a mean Crotchy set of Guardians." In turn, he is described as "disrespectful, insolent and very inattentive to his duties and requires reprimanding" so it sounds, to me, as if they would have been quite happy for him to leave using the euphemistic "ill-health" as his reason Ann
He has definitely fallen off his pedestal! He started off walking on water, first pupil teacher rising above adversity etc. then we found 2 families, now we hear he is disrespectful and so forth. The reference he got from Wincanton Union also says he walked on water though he was only there for 6 months. I have to get to Somerset RO next. This ole hobby of ours involves plenty of travel
