Hello from South Cumbria. Researching Smith in Devon (some hope), SYDNEY from Luton, amongst others, and ancestors who migrated to Africa.

Welcome to Top Dog, Roland C|:-)

Get yourself comfy, have a good look round and start posting your questions. I am sure that the good folk here will be delighted to assist you.

Have fun!

Very true although one elderly Aunt of mine got very upset when I told her I was going down to the churchyard to dig up a few relatives. She is very literal.

Typical reaction from Auntie.

Welcome, this site seems fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself.
You have problems with Smith [Devon] - could be worse [London]
My problem - well only one - is Jones from Swansea.

Good hunting.

Welcome to Top Dog Roland.
Make yourself comfy and have a good scout around. Plenty of information scattered about to enjoy. C|:-)

Greetings Roland and welcome.

Yeah, gotta watch those literal rellies.

Hi Roland - you'll certainly enjoy yourself here. ;)
I love visiting graveyards - my family say I'm only interested in 'dead people' !!

Hi Roland, I might be able to help you with Luton queries as that's where I'm sitting in my office (lunchtime honest!) right now. I've lived in Bedfordshire since I was very young, so I know the area around Luton and Dunstable pretty well!
I'll be glad to help if you need it,

Julie

Hello

I know how you feel, but don't give up

I once had the starting point of a William Brown, born in Ireland; was misled by a census that said his occupation was "Navy" (I think it meant "navvy"), later realising he was an ex-Army man (luckily by finding another census --- people recorded only by initials just to test me)

Won't tell the whole irrelevant story; just want you to know that it's not always impossible --- but it is often d___d hard

Welcome Roland,

This is the place to get help! It is amazing how some of the people here can find those elusive ancestors even the ones with names like 'Smith'.
