Any ideas welcomed.....

Rootles out resources!
The image is of the 1851 census, HO107, Piece 1521, Folio 360, Page 42 for John Silk Harris and family. Any offers on where he was born would be gratefully received. I only agree in part with what both Ancestry and FMP have transcribed. I have found a possible baptism for him, but want to be sure.

It certainly looks like - Waterford New .....? couldn't make out the last word. I think you have hit the nail on the head Janet.

Looks like New Geneva to me too. Curious about the name I found an interesting Wikipedia page about the "Geneva Barracks". Presumably this building was earlier than 'New Geneva'.

PS. Have done a bit more reading and I was wrong about 'New Geneva' being a later building. They are one and the same.

SO ... when was your man born do you think? About 1808?

Family Search:
John Silk Harris baptised Kill St Nicholas, Waterford Ireland. Father John mother Sarah. 1799
Yes thanks AM, I found that one too. Problems is I have three different possible birth years. The baptism found is 1799, 1851 census gives c1808 and there's a death of a John Silk Harris (only one with Silk in name) age 54, St Lukes RD (same area as the census) b. c1812. I am still trying to find him in the 1841 census.

Where was that 1851 census please Sis?
I found a William Silk Harris in 1841 in Lancashire.
It's OK. I found him. What on earth is an Heraldic(k) Chaser?

If he was 54 in 1856 birth year would be 1802. Close enough. Only 3 years out. Informant wouldn't be 100% certain.

As far as I can find out he would have made Coat of Arms or such. New one one me!
