Bookmarking Posts - discussion

Anyway, as a test, I've now put a public bookmark on my previous post in this thread (#35). It doesn't look any different to me (and it looks like I can bookmark it again if I want, presumably with different notes or tags), but can anyone else see anything to show that it's been bookmarked?

I figured that the bookmark sign on your post stayed the same so anyone else may also bookmark it.

Maybe.... Shhhh.... we'll blame someone who isn't here :D

that's norty!

I bookmarked a post in a thread i started & used the bookmark to go back to the thread to add another post, I actually added 2 posts but the thread never came back up in new posts,
I again used the bookmark to go back & add another post but again the thread never appeared in new posts, what am i doing wrong.

Perhaps because you added it to an existing thread? Go back to new posts, then check 'recent posts' see if it's there. If the original is older than a week or so try the numbers for older posts. & cross your fingers until oman comes along ;)

Was it the Gallipoli post? Recent additions are there, they just show as the last person to post on the far right of the page under last messages- Lost family -Thursday.

If you post a Reply on a thread it will not appear in New Posts for you but it will appear in New Posts for others. In other words, threads appear in New Posts for you only when someone other than yourself makes a post after you read the thread or made a post to it.

Hope that makes sense.

As Wendy said, you will be able to find it under Recent Posts.

Just want to remind people:

Once you've read a thread and all the posts you haven't read since the last time you read the thread, it will not show up in the new posts unless a new reply is made in that thread.

What I'm trying to say here is that the bookmarks and new posts are two separate things.

OK, thanks. (A bit confused at the list in my profile not having the Edit/Delete options, but never mind, at least I now know where to find these.)

One other thing: in the quick reply box there's a button to link to or quote a bookmarked message, which seemed a nice feature - except that I couldn't get it to work. It kept saying No Message Selected (or similar). And once I've gone to the further options and preview, the button isn't there any more.

I tried doing that.

You only end up bookmarking it once.

When you click the bookmark link again, you are effectively editing the details of the bookmark for that post.

So, yes - while the bookmark link still appears there, that is intended behaviour.

Wendy, no its the other one facts & family stories, i posted after i received a marriage cert & i was hoping for some replys on what people thought but didnt get any & thought it was because it never came up in new posts ( at least not for me).
its all a bit clearer now, ive got it , i thinko_O

Thanks for the clarification, Oman:

However, does the following bit of what I wrote indicate a problem?

(I know I've been spouting questions, so quite understand if it got overlooked.)

So yours doesn't have these?

It does if I go the way you suggested, from the user name at the top below the picture of the dog. If I go to my profile page (click user name below the avatar on any of my posts), then click the Bookmarks link, I get this:

I think I may have worked out what's going on here. If you click the link below an avatar you go to a public profile page, and the same kind of info is available for any member. (You can also see your own on any page, not just from one of your own posts, in the menu that drops down from the name below the dog, by clicking on Your Profile Page.)

If you want to edit your information (including bookmarks), ie go to a private version of the profile, you need to follow the specific links in the menu below the dog.

Simple when you know - but if I've got it wrong, please, Oman or someone else, feel free to correct me.
