British Columbia, Canada question

While I am reading your kind offer, my wife has a Great Grandmother who came from England in 1882 and landed on 22 June in Quebec, seems to have married in Montreal in 1889 at St. Thomas Church (only info I have is from a fairly poor copy of a Church Register, (no official record documents found) Found the Birth of her second child, Roland Hugh in Vancouver on 5th February 1895 (British Columbia Canada Birth Index, 1872 / 1903) I am stuck on the Birth of her first child, Frances, born according to English 1901 & 1911 Census in Vancouver BC The mother Charlotte (or Lottie) Whiston, maiden name Wheeldon. I was in Vancouver in July and went in to the library there, a very brief visit and the lady in there found the Church Parish Record of the marriage but still unable to find the birth of Frances between 1889 1895, may have been born prior to the wedding ???? (naughty thought on my behalf no evidence of this) Any help appreciated on this family.
If you look in my postings in this Forum you will see several members have looked and helped me no end. Thanks in anticipation. arryboy

Hi Graham, I'll see what I can find. Spelling was just as bad out here, as it was in Britain.

This marriage record is from Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967. I think that is the only one that you will get. I found it and it is of very poor quality. The only other way to get a better copy is to investigate where they keep the originals and go and get a copy yourself, unfortunately. (One of my Jones got married in Montreal and it too is not good.) But it looks as if they are both from the same collection.

Second child, Rowland Hugh Whiston, father Thomas Job Whiston, mother Lottie Weldon or Wildon born 5 Jan 1895. Registered in Vancouver, but residence of father was Mt Pleasant, which is right downtown Vancouver.

That's it for now.....maybe I'll have another brain wave.

I shall dig out my Nanaimo bunch in due course - it's been a while since I looked at them. A very kind offer, Wendy, thank you.

Well thanks for looking, your Idea about finding the original and seeing if I can get an enhanced copy is not a bad idea. We did enjoy our trip to Canada this year and have said we would love to return, when does winter finish in Montreal? We haven't seen the East side of Canada yet, set the ol' grey matter a whirring now. arryboy
