Criminal Investigation Branch

A Bonza Little Digger!
Hoping this is the correct forum for this query.

Found in 1939 registration:-
Officer of Crimical Investigator Branch Personel Dept 'Gpo Gci' Travelling.

Can anyone please sort out the 'Gpo Gci' part of this occupation please. I gather he went from place to place looking into or sorting Personel data & problems.

He doesn't appear to have married, which is sad as I'd like to have seen how many descendants had his same name.

He lived to 87 years & died in Bexley, Surrey. [Greater London probably]

From MOD acronyms and abbreviations
Gun Position Officer
Ground Control Interception
Sounds a bit scary. Hopefully these abbreviations were used back that far. Or maybe not!

 oo-er, sounds a bit Military. Thanks Sue, I had expected something or other 'Personel' in there .
It's a pity UK Electoral registers didn't give occupations back then.
Great Personel Officer & Great Chief Inspector ?

General Post Office was the first thing that came to mind for GPO, but I've no idea about GCI.

GPO staff registers used to be online at Ancestry, I think - probably worth seeing if he's there.

Thank you again Sue, I think that must be it. I ignoored G.Poat office as letters were small case - duh!-.

@arthurk, thank you also, this is probaly as close as I will get. :)
