Dating a Photo

Our very own Cornish Maid
I know this child is one of my ancestors ... but can't work out which generation! Can anyone tell whether she would be born before 1900, or is she more likely to be 1910-1920?

The photo would have been taken in the Nottingham area. I think. (And no, I don't have the original.)

I don't know if this could/would be of any help for comparison, but it's a photo of my aunt, born 1907. Guesstimating ages is not one of my long suits (another one), so I have no idea of when it was taken. Sorry

Poor mite, have you never taken an unexpected photo of someone which looks a tad 'untoward' ? love that word..;)

Photos of me these days are mostly "untoward" (yes it is a lovely word), Wendy. Only the odd one out of any batch looks remotely civilised and/or human. Definitely not like my own mental image of self at all!! Since the camera cannot lie (so they say) it really makes me wonder how the world feels when I am let loose upon the unsuspecting residents!!!!

What? Your camera doesn't lie?
Well mine does. It lies all the time. There is no way known to man that I look like that!
I have deleted so many selfies so as to get just the right one and can't seem to get it.. It lies every single time.

I think cameras' who know it all' take into account the lack of sleep the previous night, the bills you weren't expecting the drama unfolding with teeners, the un/expected deaths in the Family & other stuff we seem to be unaware of, & add to the over all picture.
Stay out of range!!

Never, ever, ever have I taken or will I be tempted to take, a "selfie". My arms are way too short to allow any kind of sympathetic perspective to kindly intrude itself and even lenses which are what seem to be miles away are less than kind. When I see the images of my friends and/or family in the same photo as I appear and they seem to be quite "normal" looking, even nice, I really have to say that no, the camera doesn't lie at all (except in my case mayhap - please?)

I do envy how you all seem to have a way with words! Can someone please tell me why what is in my head is not what comes out of my mouth? o_OCan get me in to trouble sometimes I can tell you. My boss asked me the other day what I thought of a house that some photos that had been taken of. I said "Can I say what I really think?" and his answer was "Nothing has stopped you before":eek:o_O

All these electronic gizmos that take photographs do make me wonder if there will be people asking in 100 years from now to date pictures. Are they printed off and saved for future generations or are they just kept electronically?

I print off the ones I like, ditch some and save some that don't really matter one way or the other.
I am not at all technologically savvy in fact the exact opposite and I only taught myself how to do selfies because I take such a rotten photo that I needed to experiment to send a good one to a friend overseas. Even that one is just passable. But it would have to do as I was sick of smiling at myself.
I hope he liked it. It took a lot of work. :)
