Finally - I made it!

Thanks to Pam's Parish Chest newsletter, I got the link to the new forum earlier this morning. I had a nosey around and was delighted to see "old" friends here already - Ann B, Glenys, Mark J and Guy Etchells (sorry if I've missed naming the rest).

I tried to join over an hour ago, wouldn't accept my full name (Grant-Salmon) even though it was just on the limit of 17, so I've shortened myself ..... can't really afford to do that, as I'm only 5' 2" to start with!

Then I still couldn't get in, got a captcha message up, so tried the contact us at bottom of page, no joy at sending that either. In desperation, I wrote to Guy Etchells at home asking him to forward a message to Jan & Doug for me.

Then, I had a "mess about" and finally tried "sliding over" the Verification bit which locked everything and it worked, so I am finally here! 8(:-)

Don't know about Jan being called Daft Bat though ...... surely that applies to me now?! :D

Hi Diane,

Glad you finally made it. Glad you got the slider sorted out.

It is very effective at keeping the nasties out - unfortunately it is also catching a few of the goodies. :)

Hi Diane and welcome to Top Dog C|:-)
Glad you finally found us after a few glitches.
You'll soon find your way around - easy forum to use but if you do have any problems, just shout and we'll point you in the right direction.
Enjoy yourself - especially as you're now amongst old friends.

Hi Diane C|:-)

Welcome to Top Dog. I love your determination, it paid off too and here you are amongst old friends. I remember you from another site where you were looking for the census ref for Storthes Hall.

Good luck Diane and enjoy feeling your way around here.

Welcome to Top Dog Diane, so glad you have found us.C|:-)
I bet you are exhausted but I am sure you'll find all your efforts worth it.
Just shows how determined we learn to be in this hobby.

Have a good look around and if you need any help at all, just ask.
Plenty of old and new friends here all enjoying the new décor and having a catch up. :)

Glad to see I wasn't the only one! Number Two son worked it out for me.

It's nice here and very friendly.. Welcome

Karen

5' 2"? That sounds tall to me. :)

Welcome back, Diane, I'm glad you conquered the slidy thing in the end. Somehow I got in without doing that: maybe it was because I came bearing chocolate cake.

Speaking of cake, I had better get back to baking for all these new people who are arriving. This is turning into a really big party!

Hi Diane and welcome back to the fold - isn't it great to see so many 'old' faces.

5'2" that's a perfect height - says she who is 5'4" (and a bit!!), all good things come in small packages so I tell hubby and good things in tall packages when I want something from a high up shelf - knew he had a use somewhere!!

Come join the party, Huncamunca is making cake so that sounds good to me hehe

I think we're going to have to invest in a few more chairs at this rate!

So glad you passed the entrance exam Diane - the slidey thing had me puzzled for a bit, but my cursor happened to land on it and it moved a bit, so with a bit of a nudge I was in - more by luck than judgement

And, as I've been telling people all my life - all good things come in small parcels (and you are way taller than me by 2 inches :))

Best wishes
Ann

You and me both Diane! Lovely to see you here too! They're tricksy with names here! I am still wandering about ... somewhat lost.

Oh don't be lost Jane. {-(^^)-} We were like that in the beginning a bit. But, then amazingly either the penny drops or, if it doesn't you realise it doesn't matter. There are some lovely new people on here all ready to go. I reckon we have the best - old and new :). A little hint from me. I always had a seagull problem and you helped me out on lots of occasions. Not with the seagulls obviously!

Gee whiz, I hope I'm adding to this thread, I'm just guessing that I've clicked the right thing.
When I have a bit more time, I'll explore the site and just hope I don't get lost, but at least I know that there are enough kind people out there to help me!

Thanks for all your welcome messages and I've just clicked on my location as I was nosey to see where it had put me. Nice to find that where I was born (Wakefield) shows, plus the village of Crofton is just on the map - where I lived until 1999, leaving then to live in Nottingham for eight years.

Upon my return to God's Own County of Yorkshire, I was annoyed to realise that I am now living in the non-existant South Yorkshire bit, so family and friends were tipped off that they would be shot at dawn if they wrote that on my snail-mail.

In my defence re my location on here, it's not a fib ...... my town was "nicked" from the West Riding. :(

Hello Diane. Nice to see you again. I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't find the slidy thing particularly intuitive!
