Goffinet family

My ancestry is a bit difficult. My ancestors came from Belgium in the late 1800s. They settled in Perry Indiana where apparently another Goffinet family was located.
My first Ancestor to come to America is Henri Joseph Goffinet. He was born at Houdmont Belgium in 1824. His wife Marie Goeder and him had several children.
6 to be exact. Most notably Joseph whoa tried Mary Peters grandchild of Dudley Devlin co K 31st Iowa.

I would just like to know linkages I have with other families, or more about the Goffinet family.

I have A list of names it goes as far back as 1530. To Jehan Goffinet 1530-1575 and Fransis Dusart.
I can give you more names and years, but I don't know much. My specific family wasn't well documented. Most of what is is in French.

Hi Hugh, lovely to see you here. I'm not sure which way you want to link with other families, (marriage etc?).
I just went to https://familysearch.org/search & keyed in Joseph Goffinet born Perry Indiana. Then just Goffinet no first name also Goffinet b. Belgium. This one may help to sort out the different families.
Quite a bit of info there including draft registration, years of birth, residence at census times + spouse & children. If you haven't tried F.Search already, have a go with info that you have. Good hunting. :)
p.s. if that doesn't work try posting a few names, it's surprising how many people will find you that way by googling that same name.

Hugh I've had a little look about in between household jobs, Ancestry has quite a lot the last being the 1910 census when a Henry J Goffinet is a widower living with his son Joseph & his family. Several family trees on Ancestry suggest this was his last living year. Problem is his age is given as 74 (b.1836 not 1824) Son Joseph gives immigration year as 1860 so perhaps not the right family?
Are you hoping to link up the descendants of Henri Joseph via their marriages & movements? or go back in his past for off shoots?

Hello C|:-) and welcome - sorry I can't help you - however this is an excellent site and I am sure someone will be able to help.

I was hoping to link off with them through marriages as you stated.

Henri has to be in my family he is my ggggrandfather.
Maybe it was wrong dates, but Joseph is my gggrandfather and Theodore is my ggrandpa they Ted Goffinet is my Grandpa

Guessing here Hugh, would you like to find spouses & families of Henri Joseph's
children & g'children?
Have you looked on Familysearch? & do you have a subscription to Ancestry or similar sites? Hard to assist if unsure who to look for. Sadly no USA census for 1890 which would have been of help, but Some help in directories for Joseph jnr. several other names which I cannot post as they may still be living.
Definitely a start for names to look for in marriages or baptisms etc..

If you can tell us how far forward you are with names it will be a help in not going over same ground. please don't mention names of people who may still be living but just say whether children or g'children of Henri.
There are two Theodores mentiond one a sailor middle initial 'C' the other working at Deere's both in Iowa.

Hello Hugh and welcome to the forum :)

That is an interesting surname, and not one I'd come across before.

There is a big Goffinet tree on Tribal Pages, which might help you locate some relatives:

http://www.
tribalpages.com/family-tree/k6pj8g5/264/surname/Goffinet

There are lots of wrong trees online, though, so you will need to check out your own tree step by step, by getting hold of copies of original documents.

Best of luck with your research!

Give me a day on the names, I've gotta find the sheet I have.

Ancestry has several marriages for Goffinet's in Belgium around the late 1700's and early-mid 1800's. Maybe you can try some of those, Hugh, and see if any look familiar.

I have noticed them. Henri has one I have found. The record itself is in French. I can see what Ancestry pulls from it, but usually there is more on the record. Plus you get to see the autograph of him.

Hello, Hugh. I have been doing work on Goffinet. I am also from Henri via his daughter Theresa and her husband John Astgen. I have been filling in the holes of more recent family members on ancestry.com Whetsell/Astgen family tree. I am very careful not to add information I cannot verify. That is why I am having a hard time tracing Henri's lineage back to Europe. Do you have any helpful clues?

Thanks, Leah (Astgen) Whetsell
