Its not so good down here now, the lights were put on a bit earlier here in the house as it went very dark. Looks like heavy rain is coming but hasn't quite got here yet:(

I would be very happy to help with any Cornish queries that you have, all of my family come from West Penwith, my parents and other members of my family are buried in the Paul cemetery.

It is not only very helpful, but also very chatty and very friendly.:D We have lots of fun, but beware, we often go off the subject and end up a million miles from where we should have been.o_O However we also have some very efficient moderators who guide us back to sanity when needed!;)

I am so envious of where you live as I spent an idyllic childhood in Devon and Cornwall. :) As a pre-schooler I lived in Loddiswell and actually started school there for the very first time. My brother was born in Totnes. We then moved to Cornwall where we lived for quite a few years on the Roseland Peninsula in Veryan, twelve miles from Truro.

What we didn't know then was that my mother had very strong family ties with Modbury (just 3 miles from Loddiswell) and from Fowey and Mevagissey in Cornwall. My Cornish branch moved from Fowey to Stoke Damerel, so I have links there too. I only discovered all of this from my family history research, long after it was too late to tell my mother the exciting news! At least it solved a major problem for me, which was my very strong feelings of 'belonging' to the area. :)

I have been living in Australia for over 55 years now, but have had many trips back to England where I always make a beeline for the South West.:D

Hi Louise,
My lot came from the same neck of the woods, Sennen and spread about the far west. I didn't discover them until we moved to Cornwall. Must have been the roots calling.

As you were "lucky" enough to hit the 800 marker on the membership list I think I owe you a special welcome as you saved my bacon (so to speak).

It really is a nice place to be and as a special bonus, helpful if you are interested in genealogy :D

You spent your early years in a very nice part of Devon and our roots seem
to continually call us back.
