I'm hoping someone can link this in some way to the Platt thread if you think it is needed. :) (Done ;))

In the Platt thread George Platt married Rachel Greenhalgh 30/3/1823 at St Mary the Virgin, Bury. (See here)

An 1841 census was found which had her age at 39 and George at 38. The 38 matches to his birth year of 1803 which leads me to believe that Rachel was born in 1802.

I looked on lan-opc.org.uk and found a Rachel Greenhalgh born 29/5/1802 at Emmanuel, Holcombe, Lancashire. It also has her baptised the same day.

Her parents are John and Betty.

I tried to look up their marriage but there were ALOT of John and some form of Betty.

Any help in trying to get more information would be appreciated.

Thank you wonderful people

Okay. I went on to the Lancs OPC website and checked the baptisms for children of John & Betty GREENHALGH at Emmanuel for 1802 +/- 10 years. The earliest I found was for a Samuel on 20th January 1799 (born 13th December 1798), so if the parents wed first, then that would be before 1799.

Checked Emmanuel for marriage records, but none.

Meanwhile, at St Mary the Virgin in Bury, there were a couple of possibilities:

20th November 1895 and 25th April 1798

Just to confuse matters, there is a baptism for a Thomas GREENHALGH that took place at St Mary's on 30th December 1798 (born 13th October 1798) to John and Betty but, if Samuel is correct, then this could not be the right family. To back this up, there are further baptisms to a John & Betty at St Mary in the years when the other John & Betty are over in Holcombe.

Still with me?

So, we have Samuel born 13th December 1798 and Thomas born 13th October 1798.

Looking at the other Holcombe GREENHALGH baptisms, there is one for another Thomas that took place on 5th April 1807 (born 11th March 1807 - he died in 1810 by the looks of things) but no death for a Thomas for this one to replace - if you see what I mean. This also adds weight to Samuel's parents being the right ones.

Often the first child is born about 9 months after the wedding took place.

If John & Betty wed on 25th April 1798 and Samuel was born on 13th December, then we are not far out.

If John & Betty wed on 25th April 1798 and Thomas was born on 13th October, then that was just 6 months later, so more likely to be the couple that married in 1795...

My money is on the pair that wed in 1798.

;)

The date of marriage was taken from a transcript on FMP, the origninal image is on familysearch and gives the marriage date as 31st not the 30th
