GRO put Birth and Death indexes online

I've just had my first real knock back on GRO other than one which wasn't listed & which I reported.[can't remember who now ]

FreeBMD
Births Jun 1920 Grimes, Nellie x Scott St.Olave 1d-361
Deaths Jun 1922 Grimes, Nellie= 1yr St. Olave 1d-116

So I put in much the same on GRO index to be sure of death year.
Nothing found, I cut off the month, the district & page no. then the Christian name, then the place.
Bingo! GRO had added (Bermondsey)

Name: Age at Death (in years):
GRIMES, NELLIE - 23 Order [23 mths obviously]
GRO Reference: 1922 J Quarter in ST. OLAVE (BERMONDSEY) Volume 01D Page 116

Just shows, don't be deterred too soon, try every which way to get your way.

Latest update on this: the GRO have now started a more extended trial of the PDF birth and death (non-)certificate service.

It's lasting for a minimum of 3 months, and the cost is £6 as before.

What's different this time is that they won't be sending the pdf files out by email, but they'll send you a link to a site it can be downloaded from, rather like the online will ordering service.

Patience is a virtue, Ann. :D
I nearly sent off last week, because I was wondering how much longer it was going to be. Now trying to pace myself.

Someone up there wasn't looking kindly on some of us.......:(
Just think,- how difficult it may be for those in the life past to push along a thought for BMDS particularly if a female? How important were they then ?

I didn't realise that you had to go into your 'orders' section on the GRO site, where you check your order status, to download. They'd been sitting there all day. There is no notification that they are ready.

Although, if I'd bothered to read the blurb...

Have finally read the blurb, and it does clearly state that an email will be sent. Still haven't received any notification, so it's possibly a problem with my email. :sceptical: Hmm.

Likewise here- no email, but as others in Oz mentioned receiving PDF with no email, I checked. Yesterday details were there, today details with "View PDF". Yay :)
Ordered on 13th due for dispatch on 19 th. May have found out why I can't find a burial for maternal Gt. G'Mother.
