Wow, where has this site been hiding, just discovered it. I'm originally from UK but have lived on the Atherton Tablelands above Cairns for over 20 years. I have got quite far in my search for my ancestors and have even discovered 'new relatives' living here in Oz and New Zealand. Mainly the areas I am interested in are around Atherton/Tyldesley/Hindsford/Hindley/Worsely in Lancashire and York and Glasgow. The families are Skeets, Prescotts, Pendlebury, Neals and Lewis. I am itching to get going looking round this site....I was going to have such a productive day as well - gardening, cleaning, cooking. Fat Chance of that happening now.

Let a Canadian be the first to welcome you, JanJan! You WILL love it here..... great folks to help out. Enjoy your day off from gardening, but please send me some heat. It's in the -20's here today.

Thank You - I have ancestors that went to Canada as well, I'll be asking your advice in searching for them, they were clogmakers/cordwainers. 30 degrees/86 degrees here in the house, I'd gladly swap for some really cold weather now, too hot to garden - I missed the window of opportunity for that because I was in here LOL. I'm sitting under the fans at the moment. Hopefully there is a storm brewing which should cool it down a tad.

Always glad to help when I can.... I work full time in our own business and January is a busy month, but I do check in a few times a day :) When you post your queries I'll check them out.

Hello JanJan.

We are fairly new - less than 9 months young. :)

Looking at the forecasts for the next week or so I am very pleased to be living in Melbourne. :D

What I have seen so far of the site I am very impressed. Its nearly ninety outside, storms clouds are brewing. Everywhere is so dry we need the rain. We are supposed to be the Wet Tropics.

Hello JanJan and welcome to Top Dog! :D

There is so much to see and so much to do here, so forget those domestic chores and settle in with us instead.

Enjoy yourself!

Hello JanJan and welcome to TD. You'll be glad you found us :D:D

Welcome JanJan C|:-)- household chores are a thing of the past once you get involved with us all. We love new challenges so post away with your brickwalls and we will do our best to help.

Thank you all, it got to 98 degrees in the house and that was with the fans on, the computer overheated and kept turning itself off. I can spend hours trawling round ancestry and the like and I know all the excuses. I get the chores done between 6 a.m and 8 when its cool. There is only me, I'm widowed, the sons have all got their own lives so I please myself what i do and when I do it. I have been known to let pans boil dry, totally ignore someone who was talking to me and sit here in the dark because I was so engrossed in the search and hadnt realised night had fallen. I even dream ancestors.

Welcome to Top Dog JanJan - 8(:-)
Yes, we all become so totally hooked doing our 'hobby'. You'll soon spend more time on researching than doing anything else. ;)
I started many years ago and am still hooked especially when I find something new and exciting - makes it all worth while.

I had hit the wall with the Neals and nothing new was being found with all my other lots and 'life' took over again so I hadnt been doing any digging, except a quick look in the lancashire OPC every now and again to see if there was anything new. I lost interest, now everything has been re-ignited. The only thing is all my notes and papers are all over the place. I was given one of those cardboard shelf filing things and i just threw all the information i had into them, its going to take ages to get everything sorted.

Ah, the piles of notes that will get sorted one day, know that feeling well. There always seems to be something new that is more exciting;)
