It's certainly Richard - the R is typical of the time. The one for Rose is the odd one as it looks so modern, possibly the vicar was showing off his knowledge of italic hand as well as secretary.

I'm ploughing through the parish registers of Holbeton in Devon, thanks to FMP, and I think the vicar who was filling out the registers for part of the 1600's went to the same school as your vicar - look how he writes his Richards

Coming to this fresh after a few days and without looking at the posts above, I think it's:

Nicholas Sowter sonne of Richard Sowter and Rose was baptized the first of May 1638.

William Sowter was buried the 26th day of June.
