Hello from America

I've been looking for my English roots for several years now. Being in America makes it difficult to find my English roots. I joined the world membership of "another site", yet still it's hard.
I was born in Nottinghamshire. I'm hoping here I can make new acquaintances and hopefully learn a thing or two about researching my family tree. My grandfather is a very big mystery and my largest puzzle in my research.
Thank you.

Welcome to Top Dog, Glenda. The one thing we like here is a good mystery, so post away.........:)

Welcome to Top Dog Glenda C|:-)

You will soon get the hang of things on here and if any post needs moving to a more appropriate place then I am sure one of wonderful mods will do it for you :).

Hi and welcome to Top Dog Glenda. Post away and lest the sleuths find your Grandfather. If you're not sure where to post then post HERE either the 'Main Man' Doug, 'Daft Bat' Jan or one of us mods will move it to the correct part of the forum, when we decide where it best fits.

Have fun :)

Greetings Glenda! This is a super friendly and helpful group and you will get lots of help.:) I live in Australia but, like you, was born in England, and all of my ancestry is there or in Wales. There is heaps of information out there if you know where to find it, but I have found that to do the best job, I need both Ancestry and Find My Past (it's okay to mention their names, but not to provide links). I currently have subscriptions to both for the UK, so if I can help in any way, please don't hesitate to ask.

If the ancestry you are looking for is that of relations already deceased, there are some real 'super sleuths' on this site, who leave me for dead on many lookups!:D

I would suggest that you put your queries on the County site for Notts initially, especially if your parents were born and/or married there. If not, and you know where they were born, you could try putting your queries on the County sites that apply to them, either their marriage or births.

We will soon have you racing away with more information than you can deal with, between us!:)
Cheers from another ex patriot! Diana in Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia

Thank you all for the warm welcome. :) My avatar is myself and my older brother before we moved to America.
I will post soon what info I have on my grandfather to the link Chimp suggested. I think I ordered his marriage cert correctly. But as this was my first time, we'll see if it arrives. Thank you all.
