Hello, my name is Steve, I'm just testing the waters here, so to speak!
I'm interested to know what specialisms people have! Not that I have any of my own. Of course I'll try to help others where I can!

Hi Steve and welcome. I have no specialisms - I'm just a common ferret - I dig, see what comes up and go for it.

I've swum in some 'shark infested waters' during my research, but these waters are very calm.

Have fun

Hello Stephen and welcome to Top Dog C|:-)

We have a mixture of specialisms - and generalisms - amongst the members here who range from enthusiastic amateurs to professional genealogists. :) Have a good rummage round, dip your toes in the water and post your questions. We will do all that we can to help.

Good luck with your research!

Hello Stephen and welcome.
Specialisms? Sadly, I've none. Each line I follow throws up something interesting to follow though. I've become a Jack of all trades wandering down many back alleys. ;)
Good Luck.

Hi Steve C|:-)

The waters here are warm and comfortable, so dive in; you'll get lots of help from experienced researchers. Post your queries and members will try their best to help. Good luck and happy hunting.

Hi Steve, I'm just here because it's green & fresh & has great content .
Lots for me to learn too, pull up a sit-on & join in.

Specialisms? None really. Just 30 years experience in researching my own family and my wife's and helping a few friends with theirs.

My wife says I have OCD. I am pedantic about recording my sources and keeping records generally. Last year she thought I'd really gone over the top when I created an index of all my field books. She gets very envious now when I can turn up some notes I made ten years ago and she can't find what she wrote last week. But she won't let me create an index for her -- says she couldn't do with all that order!!

As for being here -- this is a wonderful and well-ordered site with great people doing the same as me, just researching their own family history and trying to help others along the way. Like many here, I have migrated from elsewhere.

All the best,
Malcolm Webb

Hi Steve and welcome to Top Dog.C|:-)
I too have no specialisms - just love helping others out as and when I can.

Oh Steve, the water's fine - forget about toe first and just dive in. People here are so friendly and helpful it won't be long before you can't imagine life before Top Dog. I specialise in absolutely nothing, but I'm game to try almost anything that comes along (within reason of course - Chimp, no comment thank you). :p

A big welcome from me too.

Philippa

Hello Steve, I'm glad you've found us :)

As Niels Bohr said, 'An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field.'

I'm still making mistakes so can't be an expert yet! But it's fun being an eternal student: with genealogy there's always something new to learn.

Hello Steve, Good to see someone from So'ton on the forum. There are a lot of very helpful people here and more joining every day. I'm sure you'll find help here.
Welcome,
Lynda

Welcome Steve
Like a lot of my fellow addicts, I've had this disease for a long time now, but can't claim to specialise in anything. Biggest problem - side-tracking, but I usually get back on the right path in the end :)

Enjoy the forum
Ann
