Not them :sceptical:

Ellen LEYLAND gives her place of birth as Rainhill in the 1851 census. Baptism at Prescot on 15 December 1822 of Ellen daughter of Robert & Rachel GERRARD of Rainhill, Labourer, which you probably already have. However, this Ellen is still living with parents Robert & Rachel GERRARD in the 1841 census of Rainhill, Prescot (HO107/517/2, folio 30, page 21), so is unlikely to be the Ellen JARRATT who married Thomas LEYLAND in May 1841. Not that I have so far managed to find another marriage for a Thomas LEYLAND to an Ellen GERRARD or variants!!

To fill in your missing census record, Ellen LEYLAND is in the 1871 census of Wavertree shown as a married Monthly Nurse in the household of Joseph WILSON & family.

However, having said all that regarding Ellen & the 1841 census record, looking at Thomas LEYLAND's date and place of birth on the 1851 census, the only likely fit is that of a baptism on 1 October 1820 at Prescot of a Thomas son of Samuel & Martha LAYLAND, Prescot, Joiner, which fits in exactly with the details shown on the marriage record that Londoner found for you at Liverpool St Nicholas in 1841 and for your Thomas LEYLAND's occupation in the 1851 census record of Toxteth, so I do think it is the correct marriage record. I, too, have GERRARDs in my Tree and there are so many variations in the spelling of the surname!!

Been doing more research on this family.

Thomas & Ellen had 12 children in total. The first 6 died by the time they were 5 years old (ranging from 1 day to 5 years) with another one dying aged 20 months in 1864. That only left 5 children to make it to adulthood and I'm not sure about one of them. One only appears on the 1861 census and is never seen again.

How on earth do they cope with losses of so many children.

So, so sad. I have one couple in my direct line who had 8 children, only one of whom survived. I know expectations of survival were much lower prior to the 20th century, but still .....
