According to Mr Google a piste is a track or trail. I knew that of course Well actually I didn't, but I did know she didn't really mean sozzled or whatever it's called, I think!

To go off-piste is a fairly common saying here in Blighty, meaning that some folk tend to go off track...

Ma got it right. Some of us aren't familiar with trodden ski paths. The word in my circles means something else completely. We don't ski, but some get that way in the ski lodge, I guess.
