Hoping you can help

From 'The Meanings Behind Symbols'
Hand or arm in armour (looks like the hand is armoured) "a person with qualities of leadership'
Dagger 'Justice & Military honour'
I cant find that exact symbol but combined could mean someone who fought with honour.
Or maybe it means nothing at all. Someone just liked it.

Thanks AM, I couldn't find a thing. Sounds a possibility.

I can't really say. Is it old? could it be to do with something very old. like the Crusades or perhaps further down the line Crimean or the Boer wars?

It looks as though it might be an emblem of some sort of Society or military insignia, it's not a military regiment badge I think, could be a divisional sign/emblem. Could be a copy of a crest from a coat of arms, it's got that heraldic look about it.

Do you know what material it's made of?

I think rather than a dagger it might be a sword. From here it looks to be enamel. Definitely a gauntlet. Says me who is absorbed in ‘Merlin’ at the moment. Love all that stuff. Silly as some of it is.

It's not old and the picture is in enamel. I think that for the moment it will remain unsolved. Maybe down the track I try again. Thank you everyone for trying for me.

Oh Sis, now you've piqued my curiosity o_O. Although there is no makers mark on the back, what is there, pin, loop, or w.h.y.?

OK, just took side and back view photos and saw that there is a maker on the back. It's Angus & Coote which are very well known jewellers here that has been around since 1895. In my defence I don't have very good eyes and had to use my magnifying glass to read it.

Side view.

I wonder if they have an Archives and an email to them could provide help. As they have been around for over 125 years, they must have some old records somewhere....

Just a thought... ;)

We have a connection to AWM Canberra. I think it could be military so will pass on photo and see what he thinks

There's a whole range of possibilities for the item but there's a idea rattling round in my brain that I have seen the emblem before, possibly a military division sign, possibly a Tank regiment/corps, just can't put my finger on it. Intriguing. :headbang:  :)

More inclined to think it's military rather than heraldic, although it could be both, possibly a regimental association member's badge.

Keeping in mind it’s Australian......I have thought that it might a military training team emblem. There is a similar one but with crossed swords that belongs to the Australian Army Training Team Iraq.
