I think I have blotted my copy book!

Sometime after 21 August I sent a post re my great grand parents James William Stubbings & Elizabeth Carter to my Stubbings thread in the Essex County forum and then I had to go away and then I had to have my laptop reloaded etc. so there was a time gap before I got back to the TopDog community and then I discovered that I had been "sent to Coventry" - suddenly there was a complete cut off from my thread.

So I thought very hard about all this and now I see that that posting has disappeared so I am sure I must have offended against the community's rules and sensitivities. I am very sorry about this but I need help to understand what I did that was offensive. Could you help me?

I'm probably on the wrong lines here, but this wasn't that one day that there was a blip in the system, and a whole load of posts were ditched when it reset to the previous day? A number of mine were lost; I thought I was in trouble also. :confused:

Good point, Bay Horse! That had not occurred to me. :)

Dear all of you,
you have been so kind & supportive: Daft Bat, Blackmogs, Huncamunca, euryalas, Londoner, Half Hour, Figgs, The Artful Dodger, Bay Horse ():-)
and Oh the embarrassment I see that my last post was on the 21 August not after - so it was just me in a flap :oops: . I think I was in a panic trying to cope with my laptop fresh back from the menders and everything updated and so, all different!!

Anyway i am very glad I hadn't upset anyone because I do so need your help as I struggle through the intricacies of my mother's family, and I have been and still am, following your suggestions.
However, things have slowed down a little as having re-read the Beginners Helpful hints, I realised that on-line trees are not so clever and that I should move to a family tree based within my own laptop - so now I am laboriously learning a new set of rules and inputing every thing all over again! :)

So pleased that you are back with us. ():-) We are looking forward to helping where we can, so keep posting those questions and we will do all that we can to assist. :)

Well, there we are then. So pleased you are back in here. The members are fab, so helpful and kind not to mention experts in whole bunches of stuff. It is very daunting to have to start from scratch, I had to do that because my original research was really wefty and I was rubbish at recording my sources! But, it was worth doing to get it right. Anyway, get posting again Mattie and the guys and girls will jump in - in fact you might have a job stopping them. {-(^^)-}

"sent to Coventry"- OK I'm a Yankee- and new to the forums- what does sent to Coventry--mean- exactly - you mean banned ? and I assume something to do with a England -people being sent away -banned? o_O

From what I've gathered over the years, it means being shunned from all 'polite' company or just given the big heave-ho by so-called former friends. perhaps a term of silent treatment.
Aussie understanding, may be wrong. So many ridiculous little 'offices'.

"Sent to Coventry" means to deliberately ostracise someone. This is usually done by not speaking to them, leaving them out etc.

Happily, the matter has been resolved and all was a misunderstanding - as can bee seen in MattieO's post above (#23) :)
