The best laid plans ...... Still I'm here now. Quite few years ago I downloaded this. It is about John Chilvers,a convict from Norfolk. I have lots of details bout him and what happened after his arrival. This document is about John Chilvers and heading is New South Wales. I don;t expect any to read it, it's just if anyone recognises the format, I may find out where I got it!
Best wishes to all
Sandra

Enlarging and sharpening the box at the bottom of the page, I think it begins 'By order of the Archives Authority of New South Wales'

Snap Sue :)

It looks like it’s filmed from the original and set on those cards that you put through a reader…..I have no idea what they are called……it’s gone out of my head. I’m old. :headbang:
It could be an appropriation list as there are other names and ships listed. Or as it’s from the Colonial secretary it could be papers about or pertaining to the movements of those convicts.

There are only 2 entries for John Chilvers available on State Archives…this one looks like it could be Criminal Despostion Book Index…allegedly for horse stealing at Goulburn in 1854. The other is his ticket of leave.

Well now to follow the clues. Thanks so much for your suggestions.
John was sentenced to transportation for stealing wheat. He got his ticket of leave and went on to beome a land owner. Ironically, he was killed falling from his dray on the way to market, carrying a load of wheat!

Did you recheck your contribution to Convict Records……? You might get some clues there.

However he was free man in 1845 so his ship to Colony would not be mentioned in 1854. So not the Depostion Index. It is definitely before his unconditional pardon. Must be about his movements. Looks like it’s headed ‘and to whom’ but I can’t make out the words before or after…..perhaps assigned but I’m not sure.
