Richard Evans was born between 1650-1669 in Wales. He died sometime between 1701-1703. We think that he immigrated to Maryland before 1672. He may have had his son, Samuel, with him at the time. There were three Richards who were transported during the same period. We think we know which was "ours" based on the others who came at his same time. All of their name match names we already had listed as probable members of our family.
Richard married [in America] Elizabeth Hall, daughter of the Quaker, Richard Hall. Samuel married a lady named Sarah, whose surname has not been verified. Samuel had many children. One of his sons, Hugh, my 4G Grandfather, served in the American Revolution in a Pennsylvania regiment. So a move had been made, by that point, from Maryland to PA.
Much of the information floating around the internet regarding these folks cannot be proved. There are conflicting theories on the possible village of origin. Some say Llanfachreth; others say a village near Tredegar, not too far from the Brecon Beacons called Pontlottyn. The latter theory is based upon a curious connection having to do with the American minstrel, George 'Honey Boy' Evans, who is said to have been our 'cousin,' [a story for another time]. Unfortunately all who could explained this connection have long passed.
So… that's it. Not a clue as to what to do next to scale this brick wall. Advice is heartily welcomed.
