Irish Famine

Cold is the Dawn, The Killing Snows and The Exile Breed by Charles Egan.
This is the fictional story of one family living through the famine years. Thought provoking if your family lived through it in real life.
It has made me think that I need to research the local newspapers for my families area.

 

[Half Hour]

I have read a lot about the famine and also the ships carrying those fleeing the country to come to Canada. So heart-breaking and to think so much strife could have been avoided if some people had compassion. The book sounds very interesting, but to be honest, I think it would give me nightmares... My gr. grandfather came to Canada in his late teens shortly after the famine but no one in our family has heard any stories handed down. Would love to know first hand.

I only have little bits of stories and of course not first hand anymore, nothing much and certainly nothing concrete to research.
You are right, it is a story of nightmares.
