John George Tyrell

Hello amle (et al) What a fascinating family you have! I do like the idea of John George morphing into George and going off to sculpt in Chester....

Some idle googling took me to a website called British Family Tree Research which has for sale for £4, a postcard addressed to a Miss E Tyrell 4 Gladstone Ave Chester, date 1910.
Probably more than you'd like to pay though and may have no information of use!.:)
Grizel You are so kind, thank you. I have ordered it.
I also collect old postcards, so if it turns out not to be mine I will enjoy it anyway.
I cant get over how kind people are on Top Dog, indeed a special bunch.

I like quirky things like that too, even when the family link is a bit tenuous! Hope it turns out to be your family.

And I agree - we have a really nice bunch of folks here on TD. :)

An update on this thread.
Over the time I have been a member of this forum I have enjoyed the 'out of the blue' communications about some of my threads. Sometimes someone can give me a bit more information or they ask a question. Whatever it is it is always welcome. With this in mind I thought I would add the little extra I have found out and who knows it may be useful to someone, if only to save them going on a wild goose chase.
I ordered the 1891 death certificate for John George Tyrell and I dont think it is the right one. This one died in 60 Peckham Grove on 8th March 1891. He was 39 years old and a provisions dealer's traveller. He died of Tb. The informant was his mother S. Tyrell 60 Peckham Grove, Camberwell. There is no mention of him being a widow.
I think MealyMoo was right in post 8.

I also sent for the death certificate of Sarah Tyrrell on 14th Dec 1933 at 46 Ouseley Road, Balham. Sarah was 84 years resident at 54 Cowland Grove Clapham. She is recorded as the widow of------- Tyrrell, a sculptor. She died of Cardio Vascular Degeneration.
I hope this may help someone and who knows one day we might get to the bottom of this.
Elizabeth

As an aside, could this have been Thomas TYRRELL? ;)

Thanks Daft Bat that is interesting, how I wish. You would think we could pick him up on earlier censuses!

Well it get's curious and curiouser as I think I found Thomas on the 1891 census RG12; Piece: 53; Folio: 132; Page: 6 and what is interesting is that on the page before is a George Tyrell also a sculptor. George is a couple of years older. MealyMoo had found this on post 26.

I think the death mealymoo found (post #39) for George Tyrrell in Chester in 1911, sounds likely.

The only suitable death in Cheshire is:
Deaths Jun 1911, Tyrrell George age 55 Chester 8a 227

The 1911 census was taken on 2nd April.
I have sent for this one and will let you know what transpires. Although it's never quite as exciting as when I got them in the post! Thanks Mealymoo

I have the death certificate back, that MealyMoo suggested and yes it is my George Tyrrell. It gives his death on 16th May 1911 at 4 Gladstone Avenue, Chester. Aged 55, a sculptor. Informant Caroline Tyrrell, widow of deceased, same address. I am pleased thank, you MealyMoo

I've just happened to stumble across this post from 7 years ago and here's a random reply for you, I'm pretty sure George Tyrrell is my Great, Great Grandfather.

Hi Nolin
Welcome to TopDog.
I will contact you by private message, so look out for that later today.

George Tyrell was quite complicated and we have never really got to the bottom of his family but it's been fascinating journey.
