John Hoare of Great Bedwyn

Puts the Heart into Hertfordshire
John Hoare was born in 1756, according to his burial in 1822, Great Bedwyn. I know this is the correct John because it references his wife Esther
When they married in 1779, Great Bedwyn, one of the witnesses was Hannah Hoare, however I don't know who she was. I am trying to find his parents

The most likely baptism appears to be 1756 in Shalbourne to John and Ann
Some online trees have this Ann as Ann Stagg (married 1750), she seems to have came from quite a well to do family, with land etc and so I hoped I would find her mentioned somewhere, or her death but I can't
Some online trees have her husband marrying Ann Phillips as a widower in 1756 so she might be the mother instead

However, there are no deaths I can find of any John or Anns that seem to tally with this info.

John Hoare 1756's son, also John, was an ag lab, and they lived in Great Bedwyn for the next 100 years so the baptism and parents could be completely wrong. Can anyone find a likely Hannah Hoare who might be the key? Their name can be spelt Hoare, Hoar, or Hore amongst others

There is a bap for Hannah Hoare in Tidcombe 10/4/1753 to John and Anne Hoare

William Hoare was bap in Shalbourne on 28/4/1751 in Shalbourne to John and Ann who may also be relevant to your family

There is a burial in Tidcombe 17/4/1770 for Anne Hoare (note w John) I only have a transcription so cannot check the original

I'm a little worried about the fact that this John and Ann married in Shalbourne, baptised Hannah in Tidcombe, the next 2 in Shalbourne then back to Tidcombe for the burial. They are about 4 miles apart so possible, but it feels like two families.

The burial of Ann just says wife of John on the original.

Of course John and Ann could be a red herring

Just to confuse matters, there is a baptism of a Hannah Hoar in 1747 and John Hoar in 1752 (4 years out) in Shalbourne, parents William and Elizabeth. This Hannah may be the Hannah Hore who died there in 1814 age 67

The banns of the marriage on 16,23 & 30 May 1756 in Tidcombe parish register between John HOARE & Ann PHILLIPS state that he was of the parish of Tidcombe, widower & she was of the parish of Shalborne, spinster which does give you a Shalborne link. However, the baptism of John HOARE in 1756 took place at Shalbourne on 8 February 1756 according to the parish register, he being shown as the son of John & Ann HOAR. If John was a widower when he married Ann PHILLIPS, as per the banns record, then perhaps he was married to Ann STAGG prior to his second marriage and the first Ann died, which would make sense given that the baptism of son John was also prior to his second marriage. Unfortunately, there are no helpful details on his first marriage record to Ann STAG at Shalbourne on 5 June 1750. However, I cannot find a burial for an Ann HOAR(E) in the parish register of Shalbourne between 1750-1756, nor at Tidcombe or Great Bedwyn, so perhaps there are 2 John HOAR(E)s and they both married an Ann!! Is this muddying the waters even further?

Janet
