John Partridge b 21/09/1786 Felmersham

Can anyone help me find any descendents? He was younger brother of my g-g-grandfather William & of sister Mary Hazeldine. Their father was Thomas Partridge from Sharnbrook & their mother Martha Swannell b Pavenham but christened in Felmersham, who died 1787. Their father married again and had a very numerous family by his 2nd wife, so they seem to have been brought up by the Swannells from Chellington. Each of the three received a legacy of £50 from their g-father William Swannell when he died in 1807.

I have been able to research fully the families of William and Mary, but all I know about John is that he was a wheelwright, christened in Bletsoe 24/09/1786, m Susan Hart (b 19/10/1789) in Milton Ernest 15/09/1807 and they had a daughter Martha b 1808 in Riseley. This info came from a descendent of Thomas's other family, who also provided some useful and reliable items about the 2 siblings.
I have found a William Chambers who married a Martha or Mary Partridge in Oakley 25/03/1833 who might be this daughter. All the named villages are very close together NW of Bedford. The furthest away is Riseley.
 
There is a John Partridge who could fit the bill residing in St Martin's Workhouse, Westminster in 1851.

Do you roughly know when he may have died. I can't find him on the 1841 or the 1861 census. I found a death for a Susan Partridge burial 26th Oct at Shamrock, Beds.
 
There are several trees on Ancestry. There is one kilsby_family_tree seems reliably sourced so may help. Do you have a subscription to Ancestry if not I will post them - or contact the tree owner for you :) Please ignore the death at Shamrock - it is obviously wrong.
 
Have a look at 1841 census for Sharnbrook (HO 107 piece 8, book 14, folio 18, page 30 line 23

There is a death registration in 1852 which might be him but I haven't found the family in 1851 yet.
I guess his first wife died and we need to find a marriage to Elizabeth.
 
There were two John Partridge's baptised in nearby areas of Bed's in the same times, and both had a mother Martha. You say your John's father was Thomas and John was born Bletsoe, which fits with: John Partridge 24 Sep 1786, parent's Thomas and Martha.

The other JP was born Sharnbrook 16 Mar 1783 to parent's Jeremiah and Martha.

So, how to separate the two! You say John was a wheelwright which fits with Londoner's post #5, but Annb's post #2 fits with born Bletsoe. More research necessary to try and differentiate between the two. Ideally we need the Sharnbrook family in 1851, and John in the St Martin's Workhouse in 1841............unless both records are for the same chap, but the 1841 census describes him as a baker!!
 
There's records in Ancestry's database "London, England, Workhouse Admission and Discharge Records, 1659-1930" for both a John and Susan Partridge.
One example (there's others) Castle St Workhouse Westminster, admitted Nov 3rd 1840.
John Partridge, age 57, taken to Bow St on a charge of felony 1st May 1843
Susan Partridge, age 52, admitted Nov 3rd 1840, absconded 24 July 1845.

I've just taken a look at the Kilsby tree and as gillyflower says it seems to be a well researched and sourced tree. Would be helpful to you to take a look.

The tree suggests John and Susan(na) also had a daughter Mary baptised St Martin in the Fields London in 1810.

I found that too Mealymoo and have been trying to find a newspaper report of any offence, but had no luck.

My Bedfordshire Name Index CD pre 1858 shows that the Martha PARTRIDGE who married at Oakley in 1833 was a widow, so is definitely not your Martha daughter of John & Susan. I can also confirm the burial of Martha PARTRIDGE of Bletsoe at Felmersham in 1787 from the Index.

In the Castle Street Admission and Discharge Book there is the death of Sush. Partridge on 16th? May 1846. It would appear she was born in 1789 and Fred said that Susan Partridge (nee Hart) was born in 1789.

Thanks to all you good people for your replies. In the meantime I had managed to get up the 1841 census for John Partridge wheelwright of Sharnbrook using Martha with a fairly wide date span. She was obviously not the Martha b Riseley, and I then found the two John Partridge marriages and assumed that Susan must have died, and possibly Martha b 1808, and that he had then re-married.

I thought I had found John's death in Sharnbrook in 1847, but this turned out to be his son John aged 32. However in the 1851 census the wheelwright's business is being carried on by son James, employing 2 men, and with wife Emily nee Lowe, son Samuel 8 & daughter Sarah 6, who strangely was b Clerkenwell while all the others were from the same small corner of Bedfordshire.

So far no sign of any of the others in the 1851 census, and none in 1861. I have a means of contacting Ancestry so will try that to see if I can sort out whether I am pursuing the wrong John Partridge. It seems unlikely that he went to the bad in view of what I know about his brother & sister's lives.

So thanks again, and more to follow.
 
In Ken Shrimpton's book about Felmersham there is a reference to the house, at Radwell, of John Partridge being registered in 1806 as a Methodist meeting house.
this may be why we haven't been able to find baptisms for the children.
I can't remember when the bridge at Sharnbrook was built my, need to look in Ken's book again but it was the bridge that linked Felmersham, Radwell and Sharnbrook!
 
Family search Have marriages at Sharnbrook for Martha in 1849 to Robert Payne, and James in 1842 to Emily Lowe and then in 1860 to Amelia Flanders.
I haven't checked the name of James' wife on later censuses or looked for death of Emily yet. In all three cases the father is John.

Thanks Londoner, and for all who have offered information or advice -
It would seem that the John who married in Sharnbrook in 1810 was b 1783 to a father Jeremiah (not related to my family) and that the one married in 1807 was son of Thomas and b 1786!
So it would seem that it is not the Wheelwright's family I am interested in. So it is back to the other John, Susan & Martha.
