Looking for the parents (mother to be exact) of James Stephens said to be born in St. James, Middlesex in 1848 +/-
He married Alice Gee on 9th June 1867 in St. James's Shoreditch.
James gave his father as John Thurston Stephens a Billiard Table maker.
After searching everywhere I could think of I finally ended up on Trove (why?) and found this.

Family Notices
STEPHENS.— June 21, 1910, at Coolgardlie Sanatorium, John Thurston, beloved husband of Jane Stephens, second son of the late John Thurston Stephens, Billiard Table Maker, of Sydney; aged 44 years. Absent from the body, present with the Lord.
So born 1866'ish (possibly a brother to James.)
Now, not saying it would never happen but finding 2 John Thurston Stephens who were Billiard Table Maker's is a bit too precise to be coincidence.
I've not been able to find James, with any certainty, prior to the 1871 census where he and Alice and 2 children are living in Windsor Street, Islington.
Can anyone work out who James's parents were?
