Josiah Cole b 1835 Chatteris

Looking at military I'm overwhelmed with Josephs and Josiahs. Looking at siblings in case there's any clues, William went to Feltwell in Norfolk and married Rebekah Barrett in 1847. They are found in 1851 and then they both seem to vanish too. The same time as Josiah/ Joseph.
 
Well it's possible isn't it. I can't find sister Elizabeth with any certainty after 1851 either
 
According to FS wiki Chatteris has had an unusually high 12 church denominations, including LDS, Primitive Methodists, Wesleyan Methodists and Wesleyan Methodist Reform!
 
I know I may have a bee in my bonnet here and this could be completely, absolutely barking up a distant tree. BUT Ellis Island has two, Josiah Cole. One in 1866 and another in the 1880’s. Josiah Cole arrived at Ellis Island on the Cornelius Grinnell in July 1866. Searching around I came across the manifest of the ship that was carrying just 27 paying passengers. The others I assume were between decks and don’t show on the image. However this is the crunch….the Cornelius Grinnell was hired by the agent ‘Brigham Young Jnr’
It sailed from London on 30/5/1866 and arrived 11/7/1866. If someone could search around on Anc for the rest of the passengers just to see if it might be him or not. Thank you.
 
The record for him on FMP says he was 43 (born c1823) and a glover.

ADDED: The image is on Ancestry but doesn't add anything more.
 
Many, many years ago I did the family of Cole of
Yeovil and Milborne Port, for Debretts I think it was,
John Cole whose father was Josiah Cole. They were,
as you might expect from there, all glovers.
 
Thanks for looking at that, it would have been very interesting if that was him.
It is odd that that 4 people, unless I've missed them, all vanish after 1851.
 
Just to throw another spanner in the works, have you checked under the surname of COWELL? :reading:

I only ask as I have COWELLs in my family from Cambridgeshire and they are sometimes recorded as COLE owing to their broad Cambridgeshire accent. :headbang:

Jemima married Samuel Rowton 1848 Nth Witchford.
Jemima Rowton died March qtr 1857 Nth Witchford, along with baby Mary Rowton.:(
Mary Rowton along with twin Harriet Emma born March qtr 1857. Both 3b 572 Nth Witchford.
 
Jemima and Samuel were witnesses to Elizabeth's marriage to James Whetstone, 1854 Chatteris

This Josiah is the son of a John and Susannah. He married firstly to a Mary Hudson 1816 and had the children shown above in earlier posts, including Josiah/Joseph 1835. He was a widower in 1851. He later married Sarah in 1857 then Hannah in 1867. Marriages on freereg.
 
This is odd. I found on FS England Cambridge Bishops transcripts. Burial at Chatteris of Joseph Cole 4 Dec 1825 (says 1824) son of Josiah and Elizabeth, age 1

Josiah was married to Mary at that time
 
The burial is also on free reg. Although there could well be another Josiah in Chatteris but married to an Elizabeth, I haven't found any evidence of that so far.

It is interesting though that there were two burials of small children that day and that the parents of the other child were John and Elizabeth Oldfield, so perhaps the curate officiating wrote Elizabeth instead of Mary on Joseph's burial by accident.
 
I never got to the bottom of Josiah or Joseph Cole born 1835 and where he went after 1851

I have just had a random hint about a death in 1862 for a Josiah Cole. He died at Steel's Cottages, Fulham Fields which is around 5 miles from Islington where the man I'm looking for could have been just before. Witness Ruth Welsh of Thornton's Cottage, Royal Oak, Fulham made her mark. He's a journeyman carpenter and his age is 33. It's a bit old, but as he was not with family, perhaps Ruth didn't know his age. It doesn't mention marital status

In order to rule this Josiah out or in I need to find him in another record, but I haven't found any that look like him which makes me wonder. Is anyone clever able to find him before he died? Thank you

Josiah Cole 29 Carpenter b Brompton, Middx
Eliza Cole 19 wife b Fulham
Harriett Cole 6m daur b Fulham

ADDED By 1871 Eliza still in Fulham but married to Michael Welch. 10-year-old daughter Harriett Cole is with them along with another daughter named Sophie Cole aged 8, and son William aged 6
 
Not sure if you already have all of this but the baptismal parish register entry of Josiah COLE snr is available to view on Ancestry. He is baptised on 12 May 1816 but shown as born on 12 July 1796, son of John & Susannah COLE, Chatteris, Labourer. All three of his marriage records are also available to view on Ancestry, i.e. his marriage in 1816 to Mary HUDSON, then on 24 April 1857 to Sarah GOODMAN, widow, father Elisha SKINNER and finally on 30 July 1867 to Hannah CLARKE, widow, father Richard PECK.

A possible parish register burial record at Chatteris for Mary COLE on 8 December 1852, aged 55, given that they are both alive in the 1851 census. The children of Josiah & Mary are shown in the parish register as Martha on 10 April 1817, John on 11 October 1818 and William on 1 October 1820. No other baptisms to Josiah & Mary are shown in the parish register nor in my Cambs FHS Baptismal Index which goes up to 1837 which is interesting given that the 1851 census shows another two children for Josiah & Mary both being born in Chatteris. Nor am I having much luck finding Josiah jnr after the 1851 census record
