I am trying the find the birth and shipping details of Kate. I have her death certificate, she died in Sydney NSW 28 March 1950 aged 77. Place of birth is given as Mitcham, Surrey, England her parents are listed as Henry Burrows and Nellie Foreman. It also states that she had been here about 65 years. The informant was her niece Mercia Rance. I believe that she first went to Brisbane and moved to Sydney in 1903.
I can’t find her at all.
 
The family appear on the 1871 census in Queen’s Road, Mitcham RG10/853/48/11 - father Henry, a Green Grocer, mother Ann (those named Ann sometimes known as Nellie) and children Elizabeth, Charles, Mary A. and Kate :)
 
Ann I saw that but because the mothers name was different I thought wasn’t them. Thank you I think that they must have arrived out here in the 1880’s.
 
I have found them in the 71 and 81 census so as I thought they must have come to Australia sometime in the 1880’s. I did find a marriage on line for Henry and Ann but her surname is Farmer but all of Henry’s details match with the census records.
 
On the 81 census Henry says he is 41 and Married but no wife is there, only Charles 19 and Mary 17 are with him.
I have looked for shipping info but can’t find it. I need Sue to come onboard as she is so good with shipping.

She's here! But so far no luck.......however on 21/11/1881 from Brisbane to Sydney on the Leichardt is a Henry Burrows and a Charles Burrows travelling steerage. No sign of any one else though.
Did find Mercia. She is the daughter of Mary Ann Burrows and Andrew Callaghan who married in Sydney in 1893. Married Horace Rance in 1923. Mary Ann Callaghan died in (? oops) daughter of Henry and Anne.
 
Could she be the Catherine Elizabeth Burrows registered Dec 1870 Lambeth?
Apparently her mother may have been Anne Elizabeth.
I cant check mmn.

Neither! Its a 'useless cant be bothered' thing :D
Have checked immigration in Queensland and no-one showing up there. Checked NSW Archives, not there either,
 
Just been checking a few variations on Ancestry- no luck. There is this one for a miss Kate burrows, 36

Found Mercia Rance in 1948 renting a 2 storey 6 room building at 434 Cleveland Street Surry Hills. Dwelling and workshop, next to a pub on the corner of Crown Street. Love to know what she was using a workshop for. :rolleyes: You really have to know that part of town back then.....

Thanks for the info on Mercia as I hadn’t got that far yet. If this is Henry and Charles and I know that Mary Ann and Kate were here, that only leave the mother Ann and Elizabeth to find.

Merica was at this address when Kate died 28 March 1950. Now I’d like to know what the workshop was used for. Kate lived at 40 High Holborn St Surry Hills for 40 years.
 
If we find Mary Ann’s birth I will get the certificate, she was baptised 5 Feb 1865 but I couldn’t find her birth as I don’t know what area would cover Mitcham Surrey.

It is covered by the Croydon Registration District but the only Mary Ann BOWERS that I found is this one:

The year of birth is a tad out and the MMN is not right.

Possibly did not not register the births.... :headbang:
