Don't worry - take your time. You have had an awful lot of new facts and suggestions that other members have found for you and it is a lot to take in. When you and your sister are ready, post up what information you have and I am sure our members will be able to help.

Don't know if this is worth a punt or not, but there is a GRO birth registration at Liverpool reg district in the September qtr 1891 for a Frederick ROBERTS, no mother's maiden name shown, which usually indicates an illegitimate birth. Could this tie in with Burt's post above?

Hi Sarah Knight is FKGW adoptive mum, she also had a son, William but he was William K as opposed to William E! Very confusing they all have the same names

I am also somewhat confused. According to William Edgar's parish register marriage entry at Liverpool St Nicholas to Mina ROBERTS, his father was Thomas George KNIGHT, a Joiner, deceased. In the 1891 census of Birkenhead (RG12/2886, folio 33, page 18), William E KNIGHT born c1874 in Tranmere is living with parents Thomas G, a Joiner & Fanny KNIGHT plus widowed father in law Thomas WILD. In the 1901 census of Birkenhead, William & Mina are living with widowed mother Fanny KNIGHT at 46 Flint Street which ties in with the fact that William's father was deceased according to his marriage record to Mina. So, who is the Sarah KNIGHT who was supposedly William Edgar's mother?

The Sarah Knight is the adoptive mum of Frederick knight Gordon Wilson. We know she isn't the biological mum because she posted a death notice in the paper saying adopted son. We don't know how she is connected with Mina/Jemima, and we know she isn't William Edgar's mum (we thought that initially but now know the William on her census is William Keay not William Edgar).

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what makes you think that?

William Edgar Knight (who James Wilson is boarding with) isn't connected to Sarah Knight, Frederick's adoptive mother - her son was William Keay Knight.

But just in case, as a Northerner I can confirm that the correct PoB for James Wilson is Hebburn New Town, not Helham Newtown.

1901 has a Frederick Wilson living at Devonport Street Toxteth Park, he is 30 years old. Born America and a mariner. Wife Mary Ann 36 and mother in law with last name Brownrigg. I can’t seem to find a marriage for him though.
Page 12, Piece 161, Schedule 73.
1911 he is still at Toxteth Park, now born 1863, occupation is AB Seaman, born US. With him and wife, who is now Mary Jane is her nephew James Atkinson Brownrigg.
