Mary Ann ASHTON, formerly [name] ?

So far I have had no luck in finding any of them post 1901 census

I did come across a bap of Mary Ann Wilkinson in Kinver

31/5/1846 at Kinver St Peter
Mary Ann d/o Benjamin (labourer) and Mary
The following could get a lead to go back another generation if this is your Mary Ann.
Found on genes2.com
Benjamin Wilkinson c1810 Cainham Shropshire. Census 1851 at South Side Street Kinver. 1871 at High Street Kinver
Spouse Mary Ann. Children, Harriet, Caroline, Benjamin, Henry and then Mary Ann.

How did you find that one Ma ?
Occupation, address and Mary Ann all tie-in nicely

It is on Anc - Wills and Probate Calendar - he left £115 14/-

Still had no joy in finding any of the missing ones in 1911 - I even tried Canada in case James [jun] had emigrated and the family followed once James [sen] died.

Any clues in the witnesses at Gertrudes marriage?

I think that yesterday my brain (such as it is) was scrambled - fresh eyes today.
Witnesses at Gertrude's marriage (nice idea) turned up nothing for the Ashtons but it did throw up a nice link to another relative that I hadn't noticed before :).

That's a great find Wendy - it means the 1906 (not the 1904) death reg is his.

I took Molly May's two suggestions to the Calendar of la lahs for Probate, -sorry- biggy pain thing going. 1906 won out.

As I have drawn a blank on what happened to Mary Ann and some of her children after 1901, I will add a little more to what AM found in post#24

Benjamin Wilkinson married Mary Page at Caynham Shropshire 13/5/1830

Looks like Benjamin Wilkinson born/baptised 16/10/1809 Caynham to William and Mary.
Interestingly another enquiry online wanting to find info for Benjamin. He finds that there may be a connection to William and John 'iron mad' Wilkinson sons of Isaac Wilkinson.
Google will tell you all about John 'iron mad' Wilkinson, industrialist and inventor of cast iron.

Hi MollyMay, I'm thinking you have access to records not on Ancestry ?
I have now made a spreadsheet (how sad is that) to get my head around this family and it actually helped.
Married in 1868 but James is missing from 1871 and 1881 census.
The strange one is 1881 census Mary Ann (Snr) being shown as "widow" (the address is correct) (see #12).
Mary Ann (Jnr) missing from 1891 and Polly only shown in 1891 so Polly = Mary Ann is looking stronger (see #12).
Are Elizabeth and Edith one in the same ? (see #12).
Only one entry (1871) for Elizabeth - perhaps she died (see #13).
No mention of James (Jnr) after 1891.
No mention of Ernest after 1901.
No mention of Ada after 1901.

Yes I have FMP and Anc. both UK only.

I think a spread sheet is very clever (I could not do that - I use a sheet of paper and a pen:D) but your post shows just about all we have found

I think I may have found James in 1871
RG10/4889/6/3
Stockton Street, Middlesborough, Stockton, Durham
Lodging with Henry and Caroline Russon

James Ashton b1846 upload_2017-8-9_14-24-59.png

On the 1901 census he gives his pob as upload_2017-8-9_14-26-49.png

I have been amusing myself trying to find out where Brittel Lane is and came across this mention in the Journals of the House of Commons volume 42 (1803)
