Hello can anyone help?. Mary Kelly born Ireland but where? I waited a long time for the 1921 census to come out & finally it did but lo & behold - I cant read it, I have thought of Co Cavan, Co Carlow & more recently Co Cork. I have looked on various Irish sites to no avail. Married name Parkinson

I don't know if you have earlier census records but this looks like Mary's family in the 1891 census of Lincoln which shows her father as Owen KELLY, a 49 year old General Labourer, born in Ireland & her mother as Ann, aged 44, also born Ireland. Brother Patrick KELLY, who is lodging with William & Mary PARKINSON in the 1921 census, is also there aged 12 and born Worley, Kent. It might help you to narrow down which Mary KELLY born c1882 in Co Cork is your Mary KELLY. Again you may already have this information, but looking through the birth registrations of siblings Patrick & Margaret, their mother's maiden name is shown as MCGUIRE which may also help with finding Mary's baptism.

Just had a look back at earlier census records and the 1881 census of Lincoln shows the father as Oliver KELLY, a 40 year old Private in the 10th Regt, and children Kate, John, James, Patrick & Oliver, whereas the 1891 census shows both Oliver's as Owen. However, Catherine/Kate shows her father's name as Oliver KELLY deceased on her marriage record to Walter ASHER at St Swithin, Lincoln, on 16 June 1894.

A bit more information on Owen/Oliver KELLY. Chelsea Pension record for an Owen KELLY born c1841 who was discharged in 1882 from the 2nd Btn Linc Regiment, aged 41. Unfortuntely you have to have a Fold3 subscription to view the record.

Her father Owen died on 15 Dec 1897 and was buried on 20 Dec 1897 in St Swithins Cemetery, Lincoln. His address at death was 10 Bridge St, Canwick Road St Swithin's, Lincoln. The same address the family were living at in 1901 and 1911. They must have moved to this address sometime between 1891 when they were living at 16, Old Barracks, Lincoln and Owen's death in 1897.

Thank you so much for all your help. I really appreciate it. I'm afraid so many people on the census were simply recorded as Ireland as a birth place. I was very disappointed when I couldn't read her birth place on the 1921 census. Maybe now I will look again at Co Cork with fresh eyes. :)
