Last evening and again this morning when I was logged in to Ancestry it said I have 63  messages ( which I don't believe) :D. When I click on the message symbol I get asked to log in... I am already logged in! Makes me wonder if they have a bug, if this is from the upgrading they say they are doing or what is going on. Anyone else have this happening?

Note... I did log out..which I seldom do as I am the only one on my computer and when I logged back in.. 63 unopened still there and it still wants me to log in to read them, but won't let me!

I just tried on Ancestry - 59 messages. All appear some names having the number of several back & forth messages. I'm surprised as I thought I had downloaded most of them some time ago. -Yep downloaded on 30 May as I expected them to disappear if not done.

Wendy...I had none yesterday morning then 63 last night!! Still at the 63! All I can see are snippets of conversations long done.! They are not new.. Still wants me to log in on top of being logged in!! Thing is I sent one out yesterday morning with no problem.. I don't think he replied 63 times!

I get hugely annoyed every few days by something similar to this, not necessarily to do with genealogy.

Just happened half an hour ago with my webmail.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache?

After a few minutes hyperventilating and googling to see if it's just me, I usually remember to try that.

    It often works.

It doesn't always, but thought I'd suggest it just in case.

I was in Sunday with no problems except occasionally that message "that page is unavailable", the one I ignore. :D

Not being asked to log in, but I noticed the "Messages" thing this weekend, Sue. Telling me I have 28 - but I think that's the total in the box (all read & answered). No new ones - and impossible to sort the old ones. No "Subject Titles". And when I sent a message the other day, there is no longer a space for a heading.

Also this last week - downloading a bit of evidence from their records to someone in my Tree brings up a "Page unavailable" - yet going back to the Person, the transfer has worked. :headbang:

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't seem to apply to Ancestry.

Every so often ancestry asks me to log in I thought it was just a security.
Messages says 2 on mine for ages after I had 2 replies which I answered but not getting emails everytime to tell me just have to keep looking!

Must admit I cringe wheni see they are updating always gives another problem :headbang:

Thanks for the updates everyone..It still says 63 today, but I was able to click on and see I don't have any new messages. It didn't ask me to log in this time! I much prefer it to only show new messages.. how on earth will I remember to check if it is going to do that all the time. One new message is much more exciting than 63 old ones. Guess I will have to start deleting them, but I really like them saved on there for future reference.

Try downloading beforeyou delete Sue, then you can refer to them whenever you want. Ancestry messages zip file.
Today my messageicon shows no messages & no hints. I clicked it anyway & then 'see all messages'. on left is a panel showing last 3 people I messaged & had replies from, in centre is a copy of our messages & on right our relationship etc.

Also on left below the aforementioned :
'Your 3 folders and messages from our previous system will be available to download and save until 31 August 2020.'

Mine has been the same, Sue. Messages going back years, too - none of them new.

Btw the Ancestry site I log into is the UK one, in spite of Ancestry trying to make me use the Australian one.

Just a thought, wondering if I'm using a different site to those having problems and that's why I'm not experiencing the problems.

Could be Derek, as I use the UK site and haven't had these problems either. However, a number of people reporting the issue are based in the UK, so ??

I am still having problems with messaging... I have been using it a bit lately and when I click on I have to watch it search forever! I have done everything suggested, but it still spins and spins... any ideas?

I've got so I click on it, do something else and then go back after 5 or 10 minutes and it has usually stopped by then. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.....
