Could it be W P? As in Widow's Pension Navy?
(St German's is near Plymouth - although more Royal Marine than Navy)

I don't see a woman working for the navy in 1841.
But she could be a Nanny?? - Wendy's message 20 compares those last 3 letters ...

I still see some sort of Navy Pension.

Does she have an occupation on the previous census? Although it might be totally different it just might be the same :p

Well, with all of the views posted above, I am more of the mind that it is not the family that I was looking for. :(

Sarah's husband was definitely a shoemaker - mentioned on the children's baptism records as well as the marriage record. Their eldest son, John (not shown on this record as he is elsewhere) was also a shoemaker, so a family business, methinks.

No worries. I shall keep looking but thank you all for your help. {-(^^)-}
