My main difficulty is getting some continuity into the appearance of some Reynolds in the England Census 1861 to 1901, and in deciding who exactly was Margaret Shepherd? who married William Richard Reynolds (b. 1856 Portsmouth, believe mother was Miller), in Portsea Island, June 1880. There doesn't seem to have been consistent registration of the Reynolds-Shepherd children, although several were definitely baptised around the time they were said to have been born.
At 1881 Census time William is living at 6 Thomas St, Brighton, working as a Scissor-grinder. with him are wife Margaret (Shepherd?), daughter Elizabeth aged 5 years and son Henry, 2 months.
In 1891 the family is still at the same address but William is absent. Children now are: Henry Reynolds 10, Margaret 4, Mary Ann 2, Horace 7 months.
William Reynolds apparently died in 1898 at Portsea Island aged about 42 and he doesn't appear in the 1901 Census as evidence.
At 1901 Census Margaret is there with an additional child, May aged 3 and I think this is a person later referred to as Phillis Irene May Reynolds and marrying a Mr Amy. I cannot exactly say which birth registration belongs to May/Phillis but none give mother as Shepherd anyway.
Please help find:
The real Maiden Name of Margaret Shepherd
Plausible birth registrations for all her children
Then I can go on to find the credentials of an Elizabeth Margaret Reynolds, (said by deluded others to be the offspring of William and Margaret above) who married my DNA connection John Robinson!
