Names in the news

Yes, my Mum thought Susan was unusual too - at the height of its popularity - and there always seemed to be four of us in my class at school! My middle name is Mary, which didn't help at all, especially as I went to Roman Catholic schools.

When I came out to Ontario to go to college, who did I have in my class ( only about 30 girls altogether), another Susan with a birthday the same day..

Apparently my first name was never in the top ten, perhaps my mum wanted me to be unique. :)

I 'belong' to the 1950's and everyone assumed I was named after Princess Anne (not, so, she has an 'e' and I don't) - I suppose that was the reason for the increase in popularity of the name at that time. My parents called me Ann as it was a name which couldn't be shortened......they never took into account that it could be lengthened

Ann

We named our son Jordan in the very early 90's as it was unusual!! But when he went to school there were three of them in the class! Turns out that particular year it was in the top 10 names for boys...

My parents named me Colin. When I asked - where did the name come from? - I was told that I was named after the 1st name of the Doctor who delivered me. So, it wasn't the stork.o_O

Another reason was that on one of his visits [before I was Christened], I produced a 'stream' and christened hit trilby hat!

My parents left my middle name blank and I never added one. When I applied for my 1st passport [when I was coming to Canada] I was asked to provide my middle name and since there was none, the passport was issued as follows: surname, Colin, Blank, which caused quite a family chuckle.
